I'm looking for a remington woods master 742 carbine for my wife for Christmas Why? You wanting to make sure she will have something that will jam in her hand when your big ol target buck comes by her....thus making sure she don't kill him? Sorry....couldn't resist.

Anybody heard anything about the woodsmaster. Anybody got one. thats what i have , 742 woodsmaster 30-06 . not a carbine though . the 30-06's are what i've seen have the most problems with jamming . would not pull the hull out , would have to knock it out with a rod . as i said though never had a problem with mine . it'll spit through a 10 round clip before you can bat a eye almost . also as i said before in cases cleaning or oiling them will not fix them .

if the bore isnt cleaned often . it will rust and pit . the shell will go in easy .but when the bolt trys to eject it. the casing hangs on the rough pited surface .and it doesnt come out so easy .this only one reason they may jamm .they are know as jamomatics as some one said earlyer. 99% caused by neglect of the owner or user imo. in saying that if you are person that doesnt clean after each hunt then pass on the remington. but imo there are fine "hunting" rifles when taken care of . i would love to find a 308 carbine myself

I've got a 742 Woodmaster in .308 that my father gave me around age 11 and to this day I still use it all gun season. I take great care of all our guns and due to wear she will have an eject issue every now and then. I've been saying for years it's time to buy another rifle but just can't seem to put her aside.
