Tecumseh 10hp. Has run regularly every few months in driveway at home. Non ethanol only,
Run dry after running every time.

Brought to beach for Sally. Fired and ran rough, would only run on full choke. Ran for 4
Hrs powering fridge then died.

Since then will only fire, sputter for a few seconds, rev up to full rpm for couple of sec, then dies. Over and over
And over.

Spark plug looks clean.

Gas good. Have drained tank, cleaned and replaced. Same fuel is running 2nd gen.

Have verified good gas supply to carb.

Have had carb off 3 times. Bowl clean, jets clean. Still cleaned everything with carb cleaner. All passages open.
Adjusted float up and down.

Air filter looks ok, no change with filter off.

Tough to fire (like flooded). Then fires,
Sputters. Revs. And dies. $&;@/“&!!

I’m at wits end. Have fooled with this for a day. We’re out of the woods here but buddy could sure use
It and the fuel I brought in Mag Springs.

Anybody got a suggestion on what to try.

Does yours have a Petcock or something similar? Mine do, at the tank, could possibly be the culprit

I would also replace the spark plug, no matter what it looks like.
Spark plugs are garbage these days they don't last no time.

On hondas there is a brass tube thst screws up in middle of gas bowl. It has small holes in it. If they are stopped up it will do like you're describing. Must be taken out and cleaned . Torch tip cleaners work great

Petcock on tank is lousy and leaks, but have made sure getting fuel to carb.

Even drained fuel through and without filter. Filter flows fine.

Haven’t changed plug but tough to do down here right now.

Plug in bowl has small holes, but they’re clean. Just double checked.

I'd say you found the problem.
It's sucking air, which explains why it would only run on choke.

I’m inclined to agree with OB

I'd take the breather off the carb, get running and choke it by hand to suck any trash out of it. repeat

It’s just a poor quality cutoff under the tank. Will shut off fuel when turned off. Will flow fuel when opened but certain settings leak from the valve. Has been like that for a while. Plenty of fuel flowing through filter to carb

Oakachoy... breather being air filter? No difference in performance with filter removed.

Try cranking it with a load on it. Go ahead and plug in refrigerators/freezers, etc.

Had the same issue with mine. Would fire fine and run for a second or two, then die. Finally went ahead and plugged stuff into it, and it cranked and ran fine on the first pull.

May work may not...worth a try.

Put oil in it. Seriously. Most have a low oil sensor.

If linear load is an issue they'll usually just idle up and down rapidly. But that's normally not a problem for small wattage gensets.

I wouldn't have thought so either, but after trying everything else...that's what worked for mine Thursday morning.

Like I said...worth a try.

Some generators will shut down if engine oil level is low or there is an obstruction in the oil feed. Probably not your issue, but I would check the oil just because.

Oil level is good.

Will try starting, running with load. It increasingly sputtered and finally died with load Wed after storm.

Thanks all! Really appreciate the help
