........I guess somebody forgot to tell mars hill south alabama football was better We probably didnt watch the same game???? Mars Hill curb stomped their way to the 2A Championship. Proud of a white, respectful, Christian team going all the way. They played several teams in higher classifications this year. If they move to 3A,who knows-they are losing a large portion of their starters this year.

AHSAA really needs to do something about private school recruiting. If you think it's just private schools recruiting, you have your head in the sand. Public/City schools "recruit" just as much as private schools. Private schools can do it “legally”, public schools cannot. And most public schools follow the rules. Sure some public schools may do it but no where close to the way private schools can. Private schools can recruit an entire team. If you think the two are equal you have your head in the sand.

There is no rule against public schools recruiting. The kids just have to make a legitimate move to the school district or zone.

Private schools change the narrative a little, but historically and even this year, North Alabama football is lacking compared to the rest of the state...especially from Cullman north. Fyffe is the only public school that won a state championship this year that is north of Cullman (barely)...and there haven't been many won up there in the last few decades by public schools. Mars Hill, Madison Academy come to mind, but like I said...public schools. They should require ALL private schools to play in 7A and let the chips fall where they may. 7A needs more schools, anyway.

A few north teams scattered in there but not many, i think maybe its a different type of athlete down south in the black belt region Correct. Generations of breeding for performance by slave owners, and you see what you get.

I don't like the recruiting either, but let me run this by us. One of Mars Hills players came from some part of Birmingham and was basically an unknown last year. The reason he came was the fathers job required a move to the Florence area. They purchased a home from my wife and the boy could attend Mars Hill because he was in that zone. The reason why-Christian family with Godly values and wanted a successful future for the kids outside of a sports setting.
Coaches started working with him and he turned into a pretty good ball player. At 6' 4" and 270, he had size to play. Coaches helped develop him like all coaches do and he now has interest from several SEC schools. I wish him good luck in the future. I fished with the boy several times this year and you will never meet a more well mannered and Godly young man than him. He is truly a pleasure to be around and is as humble of a person you will ever meet. I don't know if he has the meanness to play at the next level, but we may get to see. I wish we had more young leaders like him.

How does everyone feel about high school programs encouraging families to hold their kids back a year in elementary school. I’m not talking about a kid that is behind in classes or too immature to move forward. I’m talking about a concerted effort made by coaches and administrators to get the kids a little bigger, stronger, faster, and more experienced. I know a lot of people that “red shirted” their sons in kindergarten.
