I can hear it only if they’re close enough to kill. I can hear it real well when they’re close but I start losing it over 50-75 yards away.

Never been able to hear it. I don’t have great hearing tho in general. I bought a pair of walker game ears to try this year.

My hearing is not good, but I’ve killed several birds that never gobbled, but I picked up on the sound of drumming as I was slipping around.

I can hear it will from a long ways away. The furthest I know for sure I heard it was from 125 yards on a field turkey. My problem is I can’t tell which direction it’s coming from, it’s like the sound is just inside my ears.

Earlier this morning I was watching a Osceola gobbler in the parking lot strutting and drumming and a hen clucking and purring just SW of Orlando. I could hear him drumming for sure.

I've lost most of the frequency the drum is in , if I hear one he has a loud drum and is very close, close enough to feel.

It is interesting how that sound seems like it just surrounds you

I have a buddy who can’t hear you to have a conversation with but he can pinpoint a turkey drumming and follow it with his gun barrel.

He has to be within 100 yards for me to hear him drumming but that’s the best sound you can hear in the woods.

I've always said it's because they don't know what they're listening for.

I'm of the opinion wild turkeys don't often do the little "pppfffffftttt" (spit) thing, and I think that's what people are listening for. (Or maybe I'm just not listening for it, either way I just don't hear spitting as often as I do drumming)

I've had turkeys drumming in the woods before, and more than an audible sound, it sounded like the pressure dropped....like a wave from high to low, then back high (usually followed by the tapering off boom, boom, booom, boom, boom, booom drumming sound). I tell people, "hum in your throat" low enough that you can feel it in your ears....you're listening for what sounds like someone with a really deep voice humming to themselves.

Just ride around in Montgomery or Birmingham ror a couple of hours. If you can avoid getting shot you should get a good idea what it sounds like

I can't hear it. I started to wonder if maybe I just haven't been around one drumming in my relatively short turkey hunting "career" but to confirm, but I've had birds strutting within 40-50yds of me on multiple occasions (once for over an hour, but couldn't get a shot) and never heard anything. I've had people post youtube videos where they claim they could very clearly and easily hear it....I watched/listened to them and *nothing*. Then I got suspicious that those people were just screwing with me so I had MrsGomer listen to it without telling her what it was and describe what she was hearing.....she described it perfectly, and I still couldn't hear it.

I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll just never get to experience that part of it...and that makes me kinda sad.

I love it when they are close enough to feel them drumming.

I hear it well. 99 times out of 100 I know a turkey is there long before I see him.

I can't hear it at all. I just tried it again. Watched videos where I can hear the spit and see the vibration on the chest but I don't hear a thing. Makes me sad.

I cant hear it either. Can't hear gobbling either unless he's fairly close and the wind isn't bad. Pair that my sorry old eyes and I'm lucky to kill one every year.

Connect your phone to your vehicles radio via Bluetooth or Auxiliary cable. Open the below video, fast forward to the second half of the video, and turn your speakers up. Listening for it on your phone won’t work because your phone speakers won’t play that frequency. I share this video to people who have never heard it so they can.
