From what I've read Texas considers Hogs and Coyotes a nuisance and you can shoot them 24/7 365 days a year. You just have to have a Texas hunting license. They want to get rid of them because they are so destructive to agriculture and native wildlife. More hunters are in the woods during deer season than any other time of the year. I would think if the state really wanted to lower the hog and coyote population that would be most effective time.

I have been getting a nuisance permit (free) from our county biologist and the permit is only good outside of deer season. I can see some concern about night hunting during deer season but outlaw night hunters are not going to abide by the law anyway. I suspect this bill won't allow hunting at night during deer season?

Now I dont know if this is all there is to it but for now the article says its free........

“They have to have permission from the property owners,” Crawford explained. “If they own the property they can get a free permit to hunt nuisance animals. Landowners can work with the Department of Conservation to get that nuisance permit.”

Like I've said in the past though, there are some things that make sense to me to have a fee for if the money is being used wisely......This is one of those places I would have no problem with paying a fee if the money went back into bettering the resources. I know some say its not a good solution but just as an example.....If the money went to pay for a coyote bounty or to somehow help make the fur market more profitable.....I would see that as a double whammy on helping to control yote number.....Those arent the only two options....Its the principle that I'm more focused on......What I'm not in favor of is just being taxed and it going into some kind of "general fund" or whatever it is they call it......I want to see a paper trail that shows you are wisely using the funds your taking in......and it would be even better for all hunters to be able to see where there money is going....dollar for dollar......That would help with a lot of this rebel attitude about any and everything.....Hell, it's like a natural reflex for us rednecks or something

There should be a bounty on hogs. Day or night, over bait or out the truck window.

Damn creatures are so destructive and every last one needs to die.

I will shoot any I see at any time.

The solution to hogs is gonna have to come through research and new ideas.......It's gonna have to come through some other means than trapping and shooting just for the sake of eliminating them......It either has to be through something like sterilizing the population or incentivize them some how $$$ so that folks WANT to go out and try to kill them.....say if someone created a meat market that bought them to process and resale or whatever......The course we are on now with hogs is just gonna see them eventually saturate the suitable habitat and then that'll be that. I have no issues with looking at hogs as an invasive that we can try to eliminate.....I dont see yotes the same way though......I do feel that we should look for ways to simply manage their populations....That doesnt mean to take it easy on them just that they are part of the ecosystem too.....To say they are non-native and therefore they dont have a place is not really correct......That's an awful shallow perspective of it if its not being done intentionally

Add to that stopping the good ole boys from trapping and transporting them to new areas. The ones being paid by people for hog hunts arent helping either. I spoke with 2 guys who went on 2 paid hog hunts in Alabama last year. The "guide" would not let them shoot the large sows. Just boars and small sows. he told them he wouldnt go back to the same spot for a month after it was hunted. Said he didnt want to "kill out all his herd" All he was doing was protecting his future $. As long as there is $ to be made people will keep the hogs going.

While I don't mind having a "reasonably" priced permit, but would much prefer them being free like they have been, to shoot hogs and coyotes at night, Kill Them All, is my motto so this is a good thing. What I don't like however is our legislators playing Game Biologists and making determinations about our wildlife.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Hogs are like rats or roaches in the house. There is never a bad time to kill them. The state should encourage those willing to take them out at any opportunity.
