"Mr. Hawley" is a close personal friend of mine and has been for most of my life. You will never meet a more dedicated and studied hunter and conservationist of the wild turkey. Air quotations?? Is that his name? So now we wait. I’ll make sure this one gets pulled to the top periodically.

"Mr. Hawley" is a close personal friend of mine and has been for most of my life. You will never meet a more dedicated and studied hunter and conservationist of the wild turkey. If Mr. Hawley wants anyone to believe what he writes, tell Mr Hawley, to post up all this peer reviewed research, data compiled from the study, as well as the study parameters that he is believing. Evidently, that seems to be too closely held for the general public to see or review. Maybe it contains national secrets and is classified. I'm all about science and research, but unless it is available for review and dissection, everything that he and others are writing and saying, is nothing more than someone's personal opinion. My opinion after spending 40 years hunting and fishing is that when the dominant gobbler is killed, others will move in and take over his harem and handle the breeding. I do not know how many times in the last 40 yrs I've only had a single bird gobbling in an area that I knew had multiple birds. Once I finally killed him and got him out of the way, the next weekend, there were 4 or 5 gobbling in that same area. This "killing the dominant gobbler hurts breeding success" stuff is BS. If you think that a subordinate gobbler or a subordinate buck won't take the opportunity to breed any hen or doe that he runs across and will stand still long enough for him to do it, you haven't spent enough time in the woods to state your opinion. The TRUTH....about turkey hunting!

Mr. Hawley should probably stop turkey hunting, I mean the way he talks so highly about his own hunting skills, he must've killed hundreds of dominant gobblers over the years. Has to be horrible for the turkey breeding in his area. It's pretty funny they actually believe not using decoys for the first 10 days is going to save the life of a bunch of dominant gobblers, b/c everyone knows that is the only possible way to kill one. I was thinking the same. His cherished resource is one he has likely decimated over the decades. So funny.

What is his connection to Mossy Oak? I couldn't understand that from the article.

He mostly just harvests dominant gobblers for them so he can study them.

This was a typical mossy oak article - how I hunt, how to call a turkey..... That's why I don't read or watch their crap. No info on why he feels the way he does about the limits or dominant gobbler theory.

I asked about the Mossy Oak connection because I wonder if he is making money off turkey hunting. A lot of the letters and publicity lately have come from folks with a financial incentive to get involved.
We can expect to be bombarded with propaganda articles like this from now on. Those who support more restrictions will be presented as the Noble Conservationist. Those against it either won't be mentioned, or we will be painted as ignorant rednecks who deny science. So many parallels between the turkey nonsense and the man-made climate change hoax. No real evidence of either, but nobody who makes a living in either discipline can dare afford to question it.

He would only want what is best for the conservation of wild turkeys. Thats what I want too but our opinions differ 180 degrees. I not only turkey hunt (just like him) but I work in the wildlife field and was a wildlife researcher for a decade or so

Hawley sounds like he's just one of Chunkies pawns. He probably thinks he will get a CAB appointment or something if he kisses Chunkies arse. Hawley and Chunky are still FOS IMO, and until they provide biological evidence which we all know they won't, I won't believe otherwise. Unfortunately it appears even hunting has become as politicized as the rest of these crooked lobby groups and politicians. On another note, NWTF was pushing these changes and have been for several years. The time has come to support an organization that truly has turkey conservation as their ultimate goal, and that is not NWTF. I recommend all of you turkey hunters look into Turkeys for Tomorrow. They seem to be more aligned with the true conservationist approach that Alabama has been known for for decades. Don't let Chunky and the NWTF continue to restrict us. Send your funds somewhere that has a likeminded approach. https://www.turkeysfortomorrow.org/
