Kosher salt and fresh cracked black pepper both sides of room temperature steak just before it hits a hot grill Yep, this is the way to do it. If it’s not that good of a cut and needs some help, put a little Montreal on it.

As you've already seen, you are going to get tons of suggestions, specifically a plethora of store bought stuff, and a lot of those suggestions will certainly be based on personal preference. Meaning, you need to find what's right for you and your personal taste.
When it comes to seasoning, I personally prefer keeping it simple and made by us in house. I doubt you will ever see a real chef grabbing some commercially available spice mix off the shelf. Nothing wrong with those, but you don't have to rely on them...
1. Most seasonings (And sauces for that matter...) originated because the meat didn't taste good. So start off with some good meat first. Select a good cut of meat that is well marbled. Remember - Fat = Flavor. 2. Salt is highly under rated. Season the meat with salt and let it sit out well before cooking. I like to salt it and let it sit out for at least an hour before cooking. 3. Butter is highly under rated. Lots of times, I finish with butter while the steak is still on the grill, griddle or in the skillet. Remember - Fat = Flavor and butter is fat. 4. Fresh herbs and fresh garlic. When finishing the steaks in the cast iron skillet and you put the butter in there, toss in some fresh garlic and herbs, tilt of the skillet and continuously spoon those wonderful flavors over the steaks in the pan. It helps the outsides to crisp up and adds a ton of flavor. 5. Finally, if you want to have a solid, go to, base for a steak seasoning try this: Salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and red pepper flakes sprinkled over the steaks. I use this on burgers too.

And put a pat of butter on top of you steak and let it rest in a foil tent at least 5 minutes before serving.
