We are going down this weekend. Is the June grass bad? Anyone down that way? My sons really wanting to catch some fish. We maybe taking our kayaks too. Anyone know a good place to put in on the bay or river to catch some good fish. Don’t care what they are as long as they pull him around pretty good. Also thought about taking baits out surf fishing on kayaks and dropping them. How far out is a good distance and what baits to use? We usually surf fish and use sand fleas and squid and cigar minnows. Could we do any good in kayaks just pass sand bar fishing artificial?
You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.

Right around the 3 mile marker is a launch spot. It’s deep sand so drive accordingly.
Buddy of mine fished last Saturday afternoon near Lagoon Pass. Lot’s of catfish. Grass got really bad later that afternoon. This time of year the grass will be hit or miss depending on wind, current etc
"Cull" is just another four letter word...

Gotcha plugs, glass minnow jigs, pretty much anything shiny will be good if the fish are close by. Look for the churning bait balls and get close and cast to its edges. Plowing through may bust up the feeling frenzy. Spanish macs, ladyfish, hardtails, bonita.. most anything is going to hit those shiny lures. Probably need 30lb flouro leader to keep cut-offs to a minimum.
Rig a bigger rod with a stinger rig, and hook one of the hardtails on it and troll/paddle around on and past the second sandbar. Keep the drag set so the baitfish wont pull drag, and if you're lucky, you'll hook a mack truck of a king. My biggest king to date (42") came right off the second sandbar, about 100 yards from the beach.
You gonna pull them pistols, or whistle Dixie?

We caught some red fish on the Bobby Garland Monkey Milk jigs and live shrimp last week. Fishing around the shadow areas around piers. One house with a rock wall a old man will come out and stare at you.
