well i posted 2 weeks ago about the hybrids but then last weekend it was almost dead. that all changed this weekends and we wore them out like ive never done. i would say in 5 hours of fishing i might have reeled in 3 times without a fish. i finally just had to quit cause i was so tired. at last count , 3 or us had caught over 100 hybrids and a few cats too. we only kept the cats and a few of the stripe but here is a pic of the one big stripe and 1 decent cat we kept.

Alright... I have to ask as I have never fished for hybrids... but what did you use... and where were fishing? I would love for my girsl and I to have a day like that....

using shad for bait. these were up at mitchell dam but you can catch them right now at any dam. i took my boy over to walter bouldin dam on easter sunday and we caught them off the bank over there. works better if you put 2 shad on one hook sometimes. better hurry if your gonna catch them by this method because this wont last too much longer. right now the planets are lined up but after the water gets a little warmer they go somewhere and i dont know how to catch them after they move out from the dams for the summer

You may want to check out the laws on your limit. I do not fish for stripe or hybrids but I think I remember reading once upon a time that you could only keep 6 over 16 inches or some thing like that. Any way I don't give a rip just giving you the heads up.

yeah thats right. only six per person over 16" and i think only 2 can be salwater. dont matter, we never keep anywhere close to a limit. Usually 2 or 3 apeice if we want some for the fryer but i would rather just keep a couple cats. like i said up there, 3 of us actually caught over 100 fish all day but i think we kept 10 stripe and 5 or six cats. I kinda wish the gw would check that a little more because i know some people are taking more that they should and its not going to help the future fishing

we have a place on lay now, but we use to rent a place on Mitchell just below lay dam. man it was always fun when the water turned on. The stripes slowed way down after the water warmed up, but it didn't matter with the catfish. you could go out there and load the boat all summer long if the turbines were running. haven't fished like that in a while. sounds like a good time. :toast:

well it was an off weekend. friday the dam said they were not going to be running much water (1 turbine all day) but when i got up there they had 3 runnung and turned on 4 shortly after....if that wasnt bad enuf, i was about to leave and they started opening flood gates!!!!. not sure how many they opened becaause i hauled a** when that first one opened but with the little rain we had the past couple weeks, i was shocked .

Same thing on Sunday, said they would run 1 until 7 then 2 until 2pm, They had 3 on at 7am and turned more on later that morning. It sucked. They guy on the corner must have caught 30-50 an hour but he was the only one. THe only reason he caught them was he was hooked up on the wall and could hold still.

was it an old guy in a runabout with a girl? he has been coming in there and tying off to me the last 3 times i went and he said saturday that he was somehow going to beat me in there sunday. he did cause i didnt go

No it was a 6 ft wide jonboat with what looked like a Grandfather, Dad and son in the boat.
