Buy a dry aged prime ribeye from Shirley Brothers in pelham and put it on a charcoal grill.
Very pricey but it will be the best you will ever eat.

Shula's and Perry's are good and consistent but those are chains. That's why when you Google best steak place in Birmingham that's what shows up.
There are more local restaurants in Birmingham that have a good steak than I can list. Someone suggesting the "best" is foolish like asking someone where the best hamburger joint is.
Try Helen on 2nd Ave North. It's good. Highlands, Bottega, Hot & Hot, Gian Marcos and surprisingly Ocean use to have one of the best steaks around but a seafood restaurant and I haven't eaten there lately.
None of those places will be more expensive then Perry's those chains are at least if not more expensive than the good places to eat.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

If youre willing to take a little drive, Rock House Eatery in Guntersville. Had the best steak in my life there hands down. Absolutely delicious.

The short rib and bone in ribeye at Helen was some of the better I’ve had.

Eastwest mongolian ribeye is good. Not a traditional steak, but it's worth ordering.
Perry's is OK.
Haven't been to Flemings in a decade.
Cafe dupont used to have a good ribeye but it's been 5 or 6 years. I don't know if they are still open?
Gianmarocs Veal chop is great.
Need to try Helen, heard about it, haven't been there.
Didn't see a steak at automatic seafood. I stopped at the fish collar in Calabrian butter.

Firebirds is decent. I've not had a bad steak at Saltgrass yet. If I'm in the mood for steak and don't want to cook it myself, that's where I go.
Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.
