Hello to fellow members from a new member, for I am a disabled hunter trying to enjoy the great outdoors here in Bama......... A great way to do my first post is to congrat the buck this afternoon for he did everything in his favor, and I have to laugh about it for he was nothing to cry about. Not a monster, but he had a nice very white rack that you could not miss in the dusk light, a 2 1/2 or 3 1/2. Sometimes things like this just happens, for I was in a blind chair on the ground and not in the trees, my mistake plus other factors. Limited view and being picked off is the disadvantage of being on the ground with a lower success rate. He showed up just about when darkness was setting (I delayed shooting him in the open not really wanting to harvest him thinking about the work which I was about to have to perform) He got in behind some brush and froze looking the other way for about 5 minutes (now I know it was another deer) but I could have shot thru the brush, but na. He was traveling cross wards and slightly away ward, still behind trees and brush, darkness was with in a minute or two. So I decide to try a brush hole shot (really did not want to harvest this deer but I was thinking about the folks that could use the meat and it made me feel guilty not to try to help to feed them). Yelp, thru a ting hole among brush in dim light with no rest aim (I did jerk the trigger), not really a smart thing to do. He wheeled and ran close by, broad sided, and I then tried to get my gun on him fast, but he saw the blind and me, snorted, and took off not leaving me enough time to get the scope on him at 40 yards. If I was in a tree, he would have been a goner with a rest aim. But I know he is ok and I have all season to see him again, if not, that is ok, maybe he will grow another year and be a lot 'tuffer'. It still makes me laugh for my stupid choice but it is still ok. For me, attitude plays an important part: Do I really want to kill the animal? That is the first question that I ask myself and if my reply is- "I want him!", everything is automatic with no thinking. But today, I said "I don't know?.........Looking forward to share ideals and stories on hunting deer, turkey, and equipment. I had to learned to hunt in a different way unlike most abled hunters like I once was. I will share ideals on how to make your hunt easier and more successful, haha, when you really want it too..

Thanks for the welcome........ The trigger jerk is from my very young days of shooting gobblers with mags when my shotgun was almost taller than I was (to my nose). Which brings up the point that I was trying to get across. When I'm in automatic kill mode, I don't jerk the trigger (as bad with a rifle) because I'm focused without thinking about the trigger (and the kick of a shot gun). Now, with a gobbler in front of me, I do jerk the trigger most of the time, sometimes not. It seems like my attitude and focus at that time makes all of the difference....

Welcome aboard. The granddaughter learned about trigger jerk a few weeks ago with her crossbow. It's happened to everyone I believe. Good luck with the rest of the season.

Welcome. My cousin is a quadriplegic for 23 years now. He consistently sees and kills more and better bucks that’s all of the rest of us. It’s crazy. Good luck and look forward to seeing more.

Don't blame me for your bad decision-

Welcome aboard i've killed a ton of critters and deer and I still have to think about squeezing the trigger with a rifle...shotguns r no problem but for some reason rifles r different for me

Update: I went back to the spot this afternoon, and in day light I now see why the bullet did not make it to the buck. A few brown leaves in a wad that looked like a hole that I could shoot thru that blended with the backdrop in the dusk light. .........Is that better?

And among the leaves was a small tree, that the bottom is to the left, up and crooks to the right and then straight up behind the leaves that could not be seen with the very low light conditions, in front of a large angle/ partly fallen rotten tree across his neck area. So the shot just spooked the buck and that is why he stopped nearby, snorted- spooked again, then ran. And when I shot, his head was down looking for acorns, and the beam points were low, forward, almost to the nose, with points around 6 inches, a nice low symmetric rack that could not missed in low light conditions sideways but not super impressive seen forward at a glance. I now have a aim rest, a guitar stand that works neatly. The rubber U at the top fits the back of the hand, wrist, and forearm nicely as an aim rest with the 2 longer legs making a foot rest, the shorter leg is away ward leaning the guitar stand forward allowing more room in the small domed banned blind (a one person blind fold-out chair made by KILLZONE- check it out on line for it is neat). Every time that I hunt, I review the hunt asking, "Is there any improvements that I can do to make the hunt better (and less pain and effort) and to understand anything that happened for future success". Reviewing really works.
