Trapping coins has helped or turkey populations out a lot! You will be shocked how many you can catch right after deer season at your feeders. We probably take 40-60 a year on our place. It’s easy! However coyotes are a different subject. They are hard to catch!
Lol , build a chicken pen and put chickens in it . Seems like coons and possums come for miles

Damn , yall need to keep up . They know how many we have by game check. Wasted money on a broke system. The app is junk to. Hard to audit the government/state but it needs done. The app is about the simplist app I have ever used. Its great imo. This. I don’t understand when people say the app is hard to use. Can literally check a deer in less than 30 seconds with or without cell service.

Problem I have with the apps are you give access to stuff on you phone to third parties that can gather that info from your phone .
You give access to your email , contacts, photos, texts ,etc . They can collect pretty much anything that goes through your phone

As I get older the less I look at $$$ from an emotional perspective. The motivation for an individual or a company to make money is not always inherently evil as we like to portray it. I look at it more like a chess game now with different players and pieces that each have priorities that are important to them fighting for their portion of the pie. Each entity lobbies for what is best for them expecting that the other entities will do the same and that any “balance” will find itself……..You fight for your cause and the other man does the same.
With that being said……I think someone was definitely playing chess and not checkers the day they funded the PR campaign of quality deer and shooting 2 does a day to get there……..I’ve been to free range properties and seen 125+ deer while I was there tracking……Then drive down the road a piece and have folks who may see 15-20+ on a good hunt perceive that they have a lot of deer and need to start thinning a few before season is over…….Then there’s folks who say you should be satisfied if you see 5 or more……. Why?......Most folks don’t know why?....It’s what they were told to think or the company line they were told to tow….. Folks arent really able to form a true perspective of what “great” looks like when the majority have only ever seen mediocre….Probably more important is that folks arent able to realize the true potential of the land and the soils. That isnt a hack on the hunters but on our management…...

I'm confused? You're not seeing the numbers of deer you saw 5 or 10yrs ago? And it's because the liberal doe days, extended season dates and corn piles. Well, just because the season is extended to mid feb, don't mean errone in your club gotta hunt. Maybe get together and quit shooting does? Maybe put a pile of corn out in the center of the property to help hold some does? I'll say this too, used to hunt owned land in that bordered wheeler refuge. This was back in the 90's thru say 2005. Was all cotton back then and deer everywhere. Bow only on the refuge, but folks took a buncha does out every year. Nothing really has changed other than the farming went to grains instead of cotton and a few more houses have been built. Same bow only on refuge and very selective harvesting on private ground and you can't hardly see a track anymore. All those deer weren't harvested. Had to be some disease or other predators that reduced their numbers so incredibly. Same with quail (but the state ain't gonna reduce the bag limit on those unicorns).
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

Alabama has the potential to hold way more deer than we have now …….The issue is that it isn’t in some folks interest for that to happen and they have lots of power and influence to see that it doesn’t happen using various methods including influencing those “company lines” that are to be towed. It would seem like to me that we just set some of this up to happen by so blatantly mixing conflicts of interest…..coincidence? At the end of the day no matter if the rules say we can shoot two does a day or someone else tells you that you need to be doing it……folks still have the option to think for themselves if they choose to do so.

We all sit and complain how corrupt the the government is, and at the same time sit here and rely on them to change something. Just because you can shoot a doe a day doesn't mean you have too. Can't control the neighbors, but you can. Control yourself. Not seeing enough deer , quit shooting them them . Simple as that. I think a lot of people are doing this and we’re doing this. I think the concern is that even when people do camera surveys, many, many , people are getting more buck pictures than does. Everyone I talk too has seen as many or more bucks than does for the past 2 seasons. I hunted one of the best properties in Lee county this weekend and .... I saw more bucks than does. That , on top of a huge total deer decline over the last 12 years is the concern.

I just had an email exchange with the state biologist who toured my lease. She says the biggest impediment to a better deer population is the timber company itself. They are managing for timber, not deer. I have hundreds of acre's that is unhuntable, because its pine thicket and its to thick to get into and hunt. Until they come thin it, we are stuck. If I could cut lanes down through it with a forestry mulcher and plant it, then I could. Then I also have hundreds of acres of pines with no understory except briars. It's basically pine straw. Only way you see deer there is they are moving thru it from 1 area to another.
So I have 1050 acres. I can probably effectively hunt 400 acre's of it. If I have 10 active hunters, that is 40 acres per hunter. That is a ton of pressure, which is why so many of the deer move at night. They go sit in the pine thickets which do have food and water in them, and come out and move towards the middle of the property, which is where we have food plots, and then they zip back to the pine thickets in the early morning hours.
My biologist contends we are probably only seeing about 10% of the deer on our property. She says the reason we see so many spikes is because they are dumb. LOL!

There have been alot of interesting theories posted. I wonder how much hogs have affected the deer population. Ive hunted prime river bottom land that had almost zero deer sign due to an infestation of hogs. That along with coyote numbers and how the timber companies have changed could be where the issues lie.

There have been alot of interesting theories posted. This is my theory…….There was once deer and then we killed them all out…….During this time we saw changes in things like agricultural production, automobile use, paved roads etc…….Then one day we decided we wanted deer again so we stopped allowing folks to shoot any females. Everything was fine until the day the herd grew big enough that it started to have major $$$ impacts on these other interests and they said “Woooooaaaah!.....We have to do something because this much $$$ loss due to deer is not acceptable.”…..I think if you pulled the annual reports showing the number of deer/car collisions you would most likely see an incline leading up to the time when we started the doe killing. Ikillbux will say that deer collisions represent a very small portion of what they pay out today and I’d say exactly, that was the very point. Financial damage to agriculture probably showed similar increases. So you get the line in the sand drawn of “too many” and what our carrying capacity is truly defined by.
