I’m in the process of getting some stuff together myself. I’m building the catch pole for about $10 worth of materials, some of which you may have laying around the house. Look up diy catch pole. The sifter I’m making out of an old piece of hardware cloth on a wood frame. You could probably screw a paint roller grate to a wood frame also. I just bought new on the traps. Hope this helps.
By the way, pcsoutdoors.com seems to have the best prices I have seen.

Why do you need a catch pole? Looks like a 22 rifle would work.

Why do you need a catch pole? Looks like a 22 rifle would work. Required by law if your running traps.

I realize you said you didn't want to buy new but pcsoutdoors has great prices and trapping kits. They also have sales sometimes.

Why do you need a catch pole? Looks like a 22 rifle would work. Catch pole is for releasing domestic animals or undesired catches and is required by law in Al to have one when trapping

I built my own catch poles out of metal pipe, pvc fittings, JB weld and a clothesline tensioner. Kinda like https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FIgqNI-RpSc
