Today while I was helping someone with their boat motor, we got to talking about the wma. This fellow is in his 70's, so he doesn't need regular hunting license, but he went on to say he didn't need one on the WMA either. He Said I've been hunting there for years and never bought the WMA license.
He then showed me on the map where it states the above. I said you're reading it wrong, so he called the GW or someone in that department.
Oddly enough, he asked the woman, she said wait let me look, then came back and said he was right, you only need the paper map or OA app.... I said you're both wrong! HE'S thinking where it says 16-64 years of age means the wma permit also and it seems she does too.
If just hunting small game, yes he is right, but they both said deer hunting. If you are 65+, you still need a wma license!
So here it is; LICENSE/PERMIT REQUIREMENTS: • In compliance with 220-2-.55, a Wildlife Management Area License (required for deer, turkey and waterfowl), plus the applicable Resident or Non-Resident Hunting License [for Alabama residents 16 through 64 years of age and for non-residents 16 years of age and older], are required for hunting on AREAS; provided however that properly licensed persons under the “Wildlife Heritage License” may hunt legal small game, except waterfowl, on AREAS without the other licenses described herein. Plus, in order to hunt waterfowl on AREAS, all licensed hunters must have, in addition to the otherwise required licenses, a current HIP certification and valid State (ages 16 through 64) and Federal (ages 16 and over) Waterfowl Stamp. • In addition to license and stamp requirements, an AREA Permit and a WMA daily permit are required unless using the Outdoor Alabama WMA Check-In application to check in and out each hunt day.
Anyone disagree? It's right there in writing.
