Going on a guided crappie fishing trip with a buddy in a few weeks. He hired a guide to take us out for a 6 hr (I think) trip and buddy is footing the bill. Question is…is tipping customary/expected in this situation? I know offshore you usually tip the deckhand but this is just a single dude. I figured I’d pick up the tip if one is warranted….just never done this kinda thing before. If so, how much?

If the guide works hard to put you on fish and is polite, tip him/her well. 10 to 20% of trip cost.

Tipping is always appreciated I would assume. Which lake and which guide are you going with. I’m in the market for a good trip. Weiss Lake. Not sure on the guide because buddy booked it. I’ll find out and let you know how it goes.

I’d be sliding him a $100 bill (saltwater multiply x 5) before we ever left the dock if you want a trip to remember. Every boat captain worth their weight in cut-bait will have a few special honey holes and those are the numbers you want to be fishing on all day long, not the same ol’ spots he takes all his other customers to.

Yessir! I’m always gonna shoot what makes me happy and I want everyone else to do the same! If you shoot one be proud of it and don’t worry what anyone else thinks. - SJ22
