When I was a kid I used to think the bird strutting out in the pasture with 10 hens had to be the “herd bull.” Most of the time it’s a 17lb 2yo with 1” spurs from the ones I’ve put my boot on. No way to tell I've seen this happen a lot too. I've also seen the position of dominance change from one day to the next. A longbeard is a longbeard. What separates them is the quality of the hunt they provide. That a cool picture!

No way to tell Yessir. Killed one on opening day one year with 8-9 hens and might of had 3/4” spurs and the next day in nearly the same spot killed one alone with inch and a quarter
