I have a timberline 850 and it definitely has its place. I like something I can put a pork butt on, and not mess with the temperature overnight. Mine gets pretty hot, but I really don't like using it for that. I can't cook a good burger on it either. They come out firm like I baked the patty or something. It does a good job smoking meats, cooking chicken, jalapeno poppers, ribs, etc. There's a reason I have a bunch of stuff to cook with outside. None of them can do it all, but they all do certain things great.

Agree on the RecTec, definitely more stainless parts than Traeger, anecdotal evidence from friends who have owned Traeger and Rec Tec agree on RecTec, I cooked an 18 lb. spatchcocked Turkey last Christmas Day, it was 20 degrees all day with an honest 25 Norther, never lost 1 degree on the temp I was running.

I get that they’re convenient, but a grill or smoker shouldn’t have a plug.

Have one - no issues. Is slower than I thought to get to max temp, but has cooked everything as expected.
Great for the cooking at home because of ease, but would not have anything but a charcoal grill at the camp.
