Headed there in 2 weeks. Let me know of any "must see" places, places to eat, etc. I am so looking forward to it.

I'm amazed you can still go there. Al Gore said it would be gone by now.

We will be staying in Columbia Falls, Browning and then in Canada for a night at Waterton Lakes. We are doing the "going to the sun road" and also Grinnel Glacier.

When I go back to Glacier, we will stay at either Lake McDonald or Many Glacier Lodge.
Avalanche Lake, mentioned above, was one of the busiest hikes we went on. Get there early or late. Not mid-morning or mid-afternoon.
I would recommend doing at least one of the boat rides. We did one at St. Mary's and Many Glacier.
Spend some time around Logan Pass in the evening. The amount of wildlife there is ridiculous. Also, walk out on the highline trail just for the photo.
If you want a hike/awesome view away from the crowds, look up Hornet Lookout. It's an old fire lookout in the NF and you can pair it with a trip to PoleBridge. There is also a border crossing on the same road that isn't very big. It may not be used at all any more.

We got back three weeks ago from a trip with our 21 and 18yo boys to Yellowstone, Tetons, back through Yellowstone and finished with Glacier. It was our first time to visit Glacier and we loved it.
We stayed 2 nights at Many Glacier Hotel and two nights at Under Canvas on the west side of the park. When we go back (wife and I were planning our return before we even left!) we’ll stay at Many Glacier Hotel again and also Lake McDonald. Food was great at Many Glacier Hotel both nights (porkchop!) and lunch and draft beer at Lake MacDonald for lunch (Bison sausage) following a Red Bus tour was a highlight too.
The red bus tour was a good way to see the the Sun road (way more relaxing than if you are driving it). We broke down on the tour and got an extra 2.5hrs sitting and viewing at an awesome turnoff with restrooms just below Logan Pass.
Agree with the tour guide app and we loved the boat trip at St Mary. You’ll need reservations for Going to the Sun Road. It’s spectacular. Logan Pass will be very crowded and parking is limited. Saw some BIG rams there on the trail leaving the visitor center.
As Yellowstone veterans and Glacier newbies, we didn’t purchase bear spray. We were conspicuously the only ones on the trails without it. We spotted one grizzly high above us and came face to face with a momma black bear and cub about a mile from Many Glacier Hotel. She wasn’t aggressive but she stood her ground and we backed out. I might change my stance on bear spray next time.
Enjoy!

Good info on this thread.
BamaBoHunter, please post up results of your Sept. trip as both adventures are on our next trip out. Are you horsebacking in and camping out on the flyfishing trips? Hopefully next year wife and I'll be back if not sooner.
No but ive looked at the trips into the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area out there and they look awesome. We are just doing a day trip fishing. We already booked it, but we will make decision on which river closer to time.

Montana does not disappoint. We went to the Glacier twice, once to going to the sun road (logan pass), Lake McDonald, St. Mary area and the other day to the north end at Many Glacier. Both areas are beautiful, GTTSR is a must see. We are not avid hikers, but we did 20 miles over 2 days (Hidden Lake Over Look, Highline Trail partial, St. Mary/Virginia Falls, and Avalanche Lake) We saw elk, moose, a grizzly bear, rams, and sheep. We stayed in the flathead valley near Kalispell as our base camp and surprisingly saw more deer and turkey in that area than anywhere Ive been minus the Midwest. No huge buck but saw a ton of 110-120" deer and a few that may have been 130s. We also went fly fishing on the Clark Fork River in Paradise, MT, we caught rainbows, cutthroat, and even some small mouth. We also went horse back riding which was fun but, my rear end is still sore. The best food we found out there was Tupelo Grill in Whitefish, Echo Lake Cafe in Bigfork for breakfast, and Gunsight Saloon in Columbia falls. We drove over 1000 miles while we were there and saw some beautiful country. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.postimg.cc/0rjxRFSk/GP.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.postimg.cc/fV2jF3QT/GP1.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.postimg.cc/pyHGKF2g/GP2.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.postimg.cc/94HTsyN2/GP3.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.postimg.cc/G9dK4nKR/GP4.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.postimg.cc/4KG7WsmN/GP5.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.postimg.cc/87mPPWzN/GP6.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.postimg.cc/ph4P1JqY/GP7.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.postimg.cc/Xr44hJch/GP8.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.postimg.cc/SngFvGK2/GP9.jpg)

it's a special place for sure. Our trip was great. I felt like I had been through two a days after day three from the hikes and elevation but it was all worth it. I've been to a couple places out west and they have all been beautiful but I don't know that I have ever seen anywhere like that area. Everywhere you turn can take your breath at what you see. We put 1K miles on a ford escape (I hope i never drive another one). Both sides of the park , up to waterton lake (canada), polebridge, GTTSR, many glacier, Blackfeet Indian Res, East Glacier, etc. Saw moose, mule and whitetail deer, bighorn sheep, mtn goats, black bear, two grizzlies, elk, pronghorn, etc. We are already planning a trip back. If you ever get the chance, GO!!
