A while back on a thread someone was looking to buy a tractor. A user on here posted a company somewhere in north Alabama that rebuilt older tractors and sold them. Had a website and everything. I’ve checked the search bar and came up empty. Do any of you recall that thread or might know what company I’m referring to. Thanks

I am partial to John Deere. Been very good to us for over 60+ years. In the last two weeks we have spent 6 days on a John Deere seat using multiple tractors. Not a single problem from any of them. They are a little more expensive than others, but their resale really adds up in the long run.
I can't stand a thief.

I said it on the other thread and I'll say it on this one. Tractors are like wieners. You always need a bigger one than what you got. Get the biggest one you can afford.

If it’s not a John Deere or Kubota, I wouldn’t buy it. Everything else is an off-brand.

It's nice driving them and not having to pay for them lol but, here' what the dairy here used/uses -The oldest 3 tractors on the farm are 2 Massey Ferguson, 1 international, and 1 JD. Old school workhorses. -The heavy load wagons, manure spreading, big mowers, big rakes are now carried by JCB/Massey Ferguson tractors -Surprise tractor was an LS, it's been a good little tractor mowing, raking, and some loader work. Does the same work as a similar sized Kubota they had. -Most disliked, a newer JD. It's slow, and without calcium/water in tires, really sketchy on hills. Would serve well on more flat, smaller farm. We drive miles and on pavement, so that's why speed was an issue to us. -Newest addition, another Massey pic below ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/rpy7A82.jpg)

I bought a Yanmar 2210DB from him in 2015, and have no complaints about the tractor. It looks like they are about 20% higher now than they were 8 years ago, but I imagine that's true for most any tractor. It was essentially a new tractor with 1980 technology, which is something I found to be very appealing. There isn't a computer on it, much less any of the anti-pollution junk that's on a new one. It's simple enough that I have been able to keep it up myself.
The thing about the Yanmars is that they are all in the dinky category. Mine is 26 hp, and I don't think he has any over about 35. I consider it ideal size for a garden and keeping up a few acres, but it isn't big enough for a whole lot of work on a big place.
I also have a 75 hp JD, and both tractors have their place. I would rather have a 1980 75 hp Yanmar than the JD, but such a thing doesn't exist. I don't think you can compare one of these Yanmars to a 1980 tractor on someone's farm. They replaced almost everything on mine that could be replaced, so it was basically the frame and block from the original tractor with all the other parts new. Good luck deciding.

They get those tractors out of rice fields. All they are used for is PTO to run pumps. Never driven. Just sit and idel

Lookup irby tractors website. They are 30 minutes from birmingham. He always has some nice used tractors.

Irby is a good dude but his prices are too high. An old Yanmar... I'd pass and get an old Ford.
What exactly are we looking for? I am not asking what you want to spend because that is irrelevant IMO. I can come up with a decent 150hp machine for less than $15k easier than I can a 35hp "tractor" that's got 10hp more than my lawnmower.... at the SAME PRICE.
There are used tractors sitting around for sale all over this State. You can get into an older Massey or Ford or something along those lines for a few thousand and do food plots with flying colors.

Id by an older Ford there good machines, I use several tractors but 50hp Ford is my favorite for garden and plots, I use 130hp case for bushogging big fields and such

I have 1 old Ford and yea I look like a Smuf but I look like a Smuf flicking everyone the bird. Those things can't be killed. If I was buying an older tractor it’s be a ford. 4600 or 6610 depending on horsepower I wanted. We had a 6610 that was setup properly and it’d pull harder than newer tractors with more horsepower

Yanmar made the John Deere compact tractors for years . John Deere painted them green . Most jd under 50 hp now have yanmar engines Those old yanmars were solid. Some of the newer ones in JD paint are a mechanics nightmare. Basically their E series are yanmar, some are good and some will drive a mechanic nuts. A friend is currently working on one of those nightmares. Pretty much taking the entire top of the tractor off to get to the engine. He’s not fond of this one.
