This is what I found. WLR- all items must be removed at the end of your hunt that day including cameras. NF- anything abandoned/unattended greater than 24 hours is a crime including cameras. Most other public land including WMA not on NF- officials will make the individual call.....Do note by G&F district office: A hunter MUST scout his/her hunting area prior to hunting that area to make sure no illegal activity is taking place. That is, if you did not scout your public hunting area and a baited camera is in that area, you are guilty period, no matter what.....Also note, the only way you can get caught baiting is to have your camera take a photo of you dumping bait or someone sees you dumping bait. You can carry a sack of corn with you while hunting on public land, just do not pour it out. Crazy laws.

Cameras are fine, use at your own risk. Baiting on public is illegal, but if you know how to hunt you don’t need it anyway.

This is a problem with cameras. Every camera that I have walked upon, except one, had been baited or had bait found. It puts all hunters in a position to get a ticket by g&f. No, cameras are not always ok because bait is used most of the time and the owners of the camera knows they can not get caught. But have a hunter walk by, automatically guilty.

If you find bait contact who ever is over the public land. They’ll take care of it. If your saying that wherever you find cameras your finding bait, seems to me like that would be an easy ticket. It’s not hard to figure out who owns the camera.

Having a hunter walk by does not make them automatically guilty, common sense applies.

Having a bag of corn in your vehicle as you drive down the road inside a WMA seems to fit the criteria for having bait in your possession within a WMA. I don’t drive within or through Cahaba WMA with any bait, feed or minerals in the car

Depending on road conditions and rainfall I travel directly through a WMA to get to my personal property. I often have bagged corn during the season while doing so.

This is exactly my situation
I own land in the middle of a WMA and would gladly challenge and GW if I had bait or a loaded firearm in my vehicle while traveling to and from my homeplace

When I need expert advice I tend to talk to myself
The older I get the better I used to be

If you are carrying a weapon and walk upon a camera and there is evidence of any baiting, you are guilty period. The state puts the hunter on public land on notice, scout prior without a weapon which is not fair to hunters. I am not going to scout every inch of the area before I hunt without a weapon, that is crazy....A loaded weapon in the auto across a wma on a major road would be OK, just don't pull over and stop. Secondary roads would be an issue with a GW in certain conditions....Corn in a bag should not be a problem anywhere, just don't dump it. A GW still might write you up just to get you in court.....My cousin walked upon 2 people at dusk while been hunting and got a $300 ticket on his on land. His father was standing there talking with a GW with bait nearby. GWs will write you up and see you in court.
