I thinking about actually buying a shooting house instead of building my own. Looking for function and durability. I’m also not made of money and I am aware some of these can get very pricey. I’m just wanting something to hunt with a kid in and not worry about it falling apart. Let’s here the suggestions

May want to consider getting you a set of the shooting house elevators and building you a platform however high you want it to be and set up a ground blind on top of it. If you leave the blind out year round you may just have to replace it every 2 or 3 years but the platform will be there for a long time.

Banks makes a good plastic one. The stump. They’re not cheap but seem nice. Should get to set in one this afternoon.

It be's that way sometimes.

I faced the same decision this year. Three of my shooting houses had deteriorated to the point they needed replacement this year and I considered building them, which I can do better and cheaper than anything out there. However because of my age and a couple of health issues decided to buy. I retired to my farm about a year ago and have been working hard and spending way to much to get everything here set up right to take me into my dotage. I looked at everything out there but of course,as usual with most things, was drawn to the more expensive ones. Luckily due to an incredible timber cut last year, I had some pissing away money so I got what I liked best, which was the Rednecks. Liked the Banks but did not like their window size or placement. Now if I could get my sorry friends over here to help me get them up I will be set.

Im in the middle of building one. 6×8, sliding windows, insulated, metal outside, wood inside. I reckon ill have $250 or so in it, out of pocket, by the time im done, and some trading around for materials needed. I realize this probably isnt possible for everyone but its the best way for us. Im not a fan of all the plastc but thats probably the best way to go for some. We live about 5min away from where im building, that helps. Also, i have access to cheap wood and bartering fr metal, that surely helps to cut cost. By the time we get done, we will have a really nice shooting house we can be comfortable sitting in and will last a very long time.

Check out John Mcalpine from whitetail and property solutions llc if you in southwest bama…he’s the best price I’ve seen of pressure treated wood builds. Im planning on buying two next season from him. I would this year but he’s pushing out two food plots for me with a dozier/Mulcher and it’s not in the budget to do it all this year

Heck it costs almost as much for elevators, screws, lag bolts and the lumber to elevate one as the shooting house. We put up 3 this year.

I make the 4x4s a little long so there is a "porch" at the door. I also use metal extension ladders on them. The same friend will give me one if it gets damaged and I just cut the bad part off and bolt it to the 4x4. I use T posts on each leg of the scaffold and bolt the house down.
