So he is going to do more of what other states are doing.

I wonder which states he will copy?

This quote stuck out to me the most…

“So, it’s not just about approving policy. We can bring Chuck to D.C. to testify or meet with a committee or be at some event to mingle with somebody important in Congress, who, in turn, is important to the state fish and wildlife agencies.”

I can't say this is a good thing for Alabama.... this is too much power for one man to have .... before you know it we'll be having to check in every deer we kill at check in stations with Wardens posted looking for deer hunting suspects trying to evade the check point... Lord knows what all else he'd try to push for .... this can go north on us before we realize whats happened if any committee or board just gives him carte blanche ....

We need to hire someone from the Missouri Game and Fish division, to take over AL deer hunting. They are light years ahead of us.

Here is how this will likely work. Sykes will get the state a big chunk of money from the Feds. It will be labelled a success. Nobody will mention all the freedom limiting chains attached to it.

We do have a good thing imo here in Alabama. It can get screwed up real quick too. Keeping the anti hunting people away , then good for him. Lots of morons on both sides. He sounds like a politician at times in that article.

I bet it would take a huge decline in hunter participation fro them to be able to cut the season back.

There are about 49 states ahead of Alabama in game management.

I approve this message.

I'd like to see just one thing Game Check has accomplished. Just one.

They base their management decisions off actual numbers. You can look online and see how many bucks, or doe were killed with a rifle. Same with a bow. Knowing the actual harvest numbers would help. Hunters in AL are their own worst enemy. If everyone would participate in game check, it would help, The state thinks only half the hunters participate. The reason they think that is because the actual harvest doesn't match up with the estimated harvest. Estimated numbers are made up. I'm not against game check, but the state needs to use the data to adjust the season and bag limits, instead of saying it's wrong numbers. Alabama refuses to use Game Check as a management tool, because they say that only X% of hunters use it. How do they know? The same way they know how many deer we have, they guess. The MO game check takes about 30 seconds to fill out.

Not a dang thing, because the state doesn't believe the numbers that they expect us to report.

I’m just trying to learn here, not being a smart butt at all…

Doesn’t Missouri use a similar system to check game with? Telecheck I think it’s called. How do they know that Missouri’s numbers are correct? How do they enforce it? How does Missouri know that theirs are accurate?

I just started researching Missouri and Illinois game laws yesterday. So these are serious questions I’m asking.

Midwest hunters are also conditioned to harvest and reporting regulations. AL hunters are not. BIG difference.

Yep. I am certainly not a Chuck fan, mainly due to the turkey side of things. However, I think the game check is easy enough and do not understand why people fuss about it. I hunt turkeys all over and have found few easier to check in than our game check.
