It's absolutely bullschit, for a company to have no control over rather a union can come in an unionize the labor. So if you own a company and you tell the employees you will shut the business down if they vote to unionize, you've broken the law. Don't tell them. Find another reason, shut it down.

They took care of the folks who were too sorry to work and worked the stuffings out of us farm boys. Got no use for the unions.

The damndest thing is. Between Federal employment law, OSHA, and regular workmans comp, health insurance regulations, standard insurance regulations, lender requirements (that is a bigger deal than most know), and other local municipal county regulations, and not counting standard crap companies get sued for (which is the non union led lawsuits). Everything is already covered that a Union was originally created to cover!

Unions are extortionist groups. How much do they deduct from you union guys pay? The higher ups are laying in the fat cash, on YOUR back. Most of you are brainwashed though, so stomp off hating me.. Don't care.
I've announced this to both our facilities. We (Owners) take good care of our guys. Kid got a Doctors appointment? Take them. Wife is having outpatient surgery, take her. Your job will be there when you get back. If our employees ever seriously try to unionize, we'll padlock the gates. Try me and see. I won't be bent over a barrel by a licenses extortion group.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

The owner told them to go back to work come Monday or I’ll shut her down. That’s was a Friday afternoon. Monday morning some were still striking and that was that. The guy that told me that I’d bet knew exactly what he told me to be true. It was a thriving business building doors and windows and all that was left was the building supplies and they closed that a few years later. Al those empty white building in Sheffield is where they manufactured the doors and windows. The pole barns between the tracks is where the store front was.

Unions had thier time and place years ago. Probably before any of us. Especially before OSHA had its place. My grandfather was a big union guy. He started out of high school at the steel plant in Gadsden. It got a lot of things done for them over the years that help them out, but we all see how that ended for a lot of them.

[quote=FurFlyin]Unions are extortionist groups. How much do they deduct from you union guys pay? Two hours pay a month got me job security, paid grievances for contract violations and respect for my seniority. Worth every penny then and worth more now that I'm retired at 55 with 37 years of service and have been for 11 years. Some people never get it! Just saying.

Center was shut down a few weeks later.

Teachers Unions, same for Police, Fire Fighters, etc... any type of public employee is part of the Union when they get hired, because its public money providing a public service with public money. Unions in the private sector are an entirely different matter all together and should be treated differently. One of the biggest problems is that the Unions in private industry expect to run like a union in the public sector and that is never going to work ever because the two have different goals. The goals of the private sector are profit, the goals for the public sector are service.

I paid USW for about 20 years ... NEVER saw anything they did that the company hadn't already decided. When they decided that my dues would go up based on what I made ... I knew something was fishy ... In my 38 years of working in the paper industry I have never seen anyone fired unjustly. I have seen many that should have been terminated that the union found loopholes in how to keep them on, only to be a burden on all the other union dues paying members.
I have no use for Unions ... As mentioned above, thy had their time and place... but there are now SO many laws and hungry attorneys that everyone is protected while they are at work from being done wrong.

The goals of the private sector are profit, the goals for the public sector are service. Correct, and of course Teacher One can't belong to a teacher's union in Alabama because there aren't any. The most basic function of a union is to negotiate contracts for it's members, and in order to do that it must also have the authority to call for strikes. AEA has never been able to do those 2 things that would make it a union. It's confusing to people because the NEA affiliates in many other states actually are unions, but we've never had one in AL. The only way that AEA has ever been able to affect the political process is by lobbying the legislature, the same as the business council, road builders, trial lawyers and every other lobbying organization.
