I don't think they need to PIT vehicles moving that fast. Some of the video's out there ot the ASP chasing fleeing vehicles is nuts. Chasing sport bikes is nuts, and they put hundreds of innocent motorists at risk of harm and death by chasing vehicles at high speed, often they don't have their lights on either and at night.
How would you feel if a friend or loved one was killed as collateral damage for one of these chases? Guess who will have immunity?
Hard to say. Cousin of mine lost both his kids AFTER the Trooper ended (he seen children in the car) the pursuit, his Ex's boyfriend decided to keep the hammer down and ended up crashing killing 3 (another kid) in the car and injuring the rest of 'em. That is also a bad outcome. I don't know if there is a one size fits all solution, but I do know I have watched a bunch of ASP video's and the amount of other vehicles on the road that they go flying by is pretty high. If I am in my truck and have the stereo on, I don't care what kind of emergency vehicle is coming up on me, I won't hear it until its very close. I might not see it right away either, and when you are running 60+ MPH and a vehicle is overtaking you at 120+, you can't discern that. Often they (ASP) are driving well over the speed limit without emergency lights on. See youtube below.. He hits 100 mph without lights on catching up to a ZO6 Corvette, which he will never catch if the driver can halfway drive it. He comes up to a hill crest going 70 MPH over the posted speed limit, and he can't see over the other side to know what is there. Even after he has lost sight of it, he continues to drive fast with lights and siren on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yXgiqNudgk

The Arkansas State troopers have the PIT maneuver down to a science. (I know this one was in FL). The Arkansas guys have several YouTube videos of their running folks down and spinning them out. Google Trooper Jacob Byrd. He seems to be who they call into action if he is near by. I've watched some you tube vids with Arkansas law enforcement on patrol and they don't mess around... you break the law they make you pay.... drug busts central and general mayhem...
