Inflation can never be caused by anyone other than the government. Supply and demand affects pricing but that isn't inflation. Just a pet peeve of mine because our government would love to change the definition of inflation and place blame on the private sector that has zero to do with it. I don't doubt inflation has caused rates to go up but that's the governments (Fed Reserve) fault.

Good grief!

The in-laws have a condo at the beach. Lots of insurance companies have left Florida area due to hurricanes and such. Add to it that building that collapsed a couple years ago and the ones that continue to do business there have really ripped the residents. Their condo monthly HOA dues have gone from a little over $400 a month to over $1,400 a month and it’s all due to insurance. Lots of owners have been selling due to the cost rise. Apparently there is state legislation going on to offer relief in the form of grants and such for the insurance increases.

I know a guy who has one in the Perdido area. Got hit with a 28,000 dollar fee.

I tried to get an online quote from Progressive recently; when I input data on my home they valued it at 50% above current market value and you could not edit it. So; the homeowners was higher and offset the lower auto rates compared to Safeco. Before the current increase.

The auto rates in Louisiana are outrageous. It's because of rampant trial lawyers. I think they're nearly twice what Alabama is. And I'm guessing it ain't because of auto-repair rates.

My oldest son currently is in Baton Rouge and he wont switch his tag or insurance from here cause it is a very noticeable difference in price. I know there is some kind of time limit or rule about that, but for now thats how he is rolling.

Yep. Same thing in FL with lawsuits and rampant fraud. That and folks not understanding that a 30 year old roof is not a covered peril. So the guy who never filed a claim is paying for his neighbor’s free roof. mad Insurance doesn’t cover wear and tear. Scammers are defrauding insurance carriers and the consumer is the one paying. Insurance is for covered perils like fire not wear and tear on your roof. I watched an auto insurance carrier down here go out of business due to rampant insurance fraud. Though I genuinely empathize and feel for f150’s in laws as my mom is going through the same situation. Poor folks are retired on limited income and have associations pass the increases on to them. It’s a sad situation but insurance is a business not a charity. Folks think paying their premiums for years entitles them to something but your policy won’t pay a claim on a peril that isn’t covered in your policy. All of those fraudulent claims and lawsuits add up.

Off the insurance topic; but here's a example of food inflation I noticed from last shopping trip:

How about the insurance companies denying a claim that is not fraudulent? It's a shame that you have to sue your own insurance company to do what's right! I live three counties north of you and had to due that very thing.

Just got my life insurance quote after 4 months of jumping through hoops. They have taken my blood pressure 12 times over the course of 4 months. The highest it has been was 138/81. Every other check was in the 120/73 range. They got my medical records and one time 3 yrs ago their was a reading of 195/95. Very bad day, was in a lot of pain.

They have coded me tier 6? Stating my BP average is 192/96 ?????

All blood work was excellent.

Raised the original quoted rate from $198/ mo to $506/mo for a 15 yr policy.

A damn racket. Every aspect of insurance.

Mine too. Last year I had to put extra money in escrow to cover the cost of increased premium. I shopped around and found that there was not a single company that was less.

Insurance increases all across the board, seems to come down to one common factor. LAWYERS! They sue for any ridiculous reason and win. The government needs a serious look into these abuses of the lawyers and insurance companies. They are just like politicians and scratch each other's back, while padding their wallets with insurance increases.
