Doing a little father son golf trip to Birmingham. We are going to Ross Bridges and Oxmoor Valley. Any other nice courses to try in the Birmingham area? thanks

I used to play at Limestone Springs. Always thought it was a nice course. Any of the courses on the Robert Trent Jones golf trail are worth playing.

I liked playing Frank House out in Bessemer, it was a fun course. It isn't up there with Ross Bridge, but neither is the price. There is also a course a little farther South in Alabaster.

Public courses. Bent Brook is wide and flat. Oxmoor Valley is narrow with hills and more challenging. Both are very near. Ross Bridge the long tees are some of the longest in the world I think, or they were.

Frank house is garbage. Of the courses I mentioned they are the worst and the one I've played the most, because I stink at golf and it's cheap. No driving range. It's always been cared for ok, but it's for hacks and not something I'd travel for.

The course Davyalabama is thinking of is Timberline Golf Club in Calera. It is right off I65 at exit 228.

Wow, Frank House. Can't believe you mentioned it in the same conversation as these other courses but I bet I played Frank House 100 times when I was growing up. It was cheap and nobody cared that we were duffing the ball around so my dad always took us there. Is that place still even open?

frank house is still open and you can play it twice for the same price as the others mentioned and it's not in terrible shape. just be sure to follow your google maps to a T, don't get off track, and exercise your CCP privilege.

Unless you enjoy hills, I'd pass on Oxmoor. The few times I've played it I didn't enjoy it. Ross Bridge is fun. Play the tees appropriate to your skill level. Ain't no shame in playing up a box or two.

Limestone Springs is a super course. I think the green fee is about $90 or so.

Haven't played Timberline but always have heard good things about it, and the same for Pursell Farms. Haven't played Bent Brook in many years.

It's not considered by many to be in the upper tier like Ross Bridge or Timberline, but I always enjoy playing at Highland Park. It's on Highland Avenue east of 280. It was the original Birmingham Country Club (I think) and is managed by Troon Golf. It plays 5,800 from the back tees but don't let that fool you. IMO it's nice test, nestled in a tidy layout, and is regarded as a top public course. Fun course.

Ive played this one and a few of the RTJ courses. All very nice but them Asians will run up your ass and push until you let them through. I play pretty fast but some of buddies like to indulge in brain altering chemicals so they play a little slower

Frank House is da bomb!

Lots of good suggestions for the better courses.

Bent Brook and Timberline are good for the money IMO.

Oak Mountain isn’t bad either.

Bham area besides RTJ Farm Links, Ballentrae, Timberline, Bent Brook, Highland Park. Farmlinks would be my number 1 destination in the Bham area, Ross Bridge probably #2 as far as public courses go.
