I've had a bunch of 700's over the years and still have a couple. Just acquired my first Model 7 - black composite stock stainless barrel in 308. Don't really know too much about it otherwise. On the 700's, I always drop a Timney trigger in mostly b/c of past known trigger issues and I just like the timney's. There doesn't seem to be as many options for the Model 7 only see 1 Timney model for it. What kind of upgrades do Model 7's commonly get? Or should I just go shoot it and not do crap?

Start with a Timney and go shoot it.

Looks just like that. Is that the HSP stock? Didn't think about checking triggertech, will see what they have. This stock I assume is factory, it's got a little texture to it, seems higher quality than most of the synthetic stocks I've seen on 700's.

Remington sold a lot of Model Sevens with factory installed HSP stocks. IMO those are some of the best ones they ever made.

Both of those in the pic are aftermarket HSP but same stock.

Here it is. Stock seems pretty quality to be but not sure it’s an HSP though it does look similar to yours. Is the stamp I posted here the date stamp??

I believe that’s an earlier M7 SS with a decent synthetic stock. Have one in 708. Got a newer M7 SS in 6mm that the stock is different, and noticeably less dense than my old one. I think you have a gem of a rifle. It may have an older Walker style trigger than a smith can work with, otherwise just drop in a Timney or trigger tech. One thing is the light weight, and 20” pencil barrels may not be the easiest to shoot I call 1” groups great out of one.

Hallb, that looks like a Bell & Carlson Medalist stock on yours.

I’ve got a stainless 7mm08 from member on here that was made in the mid 90’s. Dropped it in a Bell & Carlson Medalist stock and installed a Timney trigger. Shooting a 140gr. Sierra GameKing round loaded by N2TRKYS out of it. Loved it so much I started looking for a .260 just like it but couldn’t find one that I was wanting. Ran up on 6.5CM that came from the factory in a HS Precision stock. It’s got a TriggerTech in it. Believe it was made sometime in the last couple of years they produced them. Shooting a 130 Sierra TGK GameChanger factory round out of it. Both are topped with Leupold 3-15x44 VX-5HD’s with the Firedot duplex. Both shoot sub moa and have quickly became my favorite rifles to hunt with.

Technically, Remington never made a Model 7. They made a Model Seven. I love them. My first one to own is chambered in 7 SAUM with a 22” barrel. I killed my first elk with it. I’ve got several others, but my favorite is a stainless 7-08 with a 20” barrel that I put in a McMillan edge filled stock. I have a Leupold VX3i 3.5-10x40 scope on it. I killed my first mule deer buck with it and hope to kill my next elk with it.

I’ve Got a 7mm08 stainless from the 90’s.

but have fallen in love with this 6# .308 with a 16” barrel and a trigger tec.

It is a joy to tote in the woods and shoot.

The trigger on this thing is LIGHT with zero creep. Once I get it back up to AL and I have my tools, I will pull the receiver and see if I can tell anything about the trigger and stock and test the trigger pull weight. I assume if I see it's not an aftermarket that it will be a walker trigger??

From the pictures, the trigger blade looks just like the walker trigger in my old M7 LSS. I'd lean towards it's been worked.

Yep, I don't think I'm going to do a thing to it. Have a meopta scope sitting up in AL that I'm going to throw on it and go shoot. I paid $850 for it, feel like I got a pretty good deal from what I've seen them sell for. Barrel is nice and shiny with no sign of wear. Supposedly was owned by former LEO with a large gun collection who passed that a friend was helping the wife liquidate. I kept looking at it for a couple of days on the gulfcoastgunforum expecting it to sell soon and finally just said go get it you idiot.
