Oregon makes best chains, bars and files . Some ace hardware an home depot carry them . Most stihl dealers do also . Make sure get bar or chain to fit ur saw . Most bars over 18” are a .50 gauge bar an chain . That’s how wide the groove the chain slides in . An most chains for that size is 3/8 pitch . The gauge an pitch is usually stamped on bar. If can’t find it take bar a chain to store when go . Lots online store sells this stuff but company i work for is a stihl dealer an i get our stuff there . Never shop online for that stuff but Ive heard the Baileys company is a good one . If in Florence go to the Oakley napa store on highway 157 north in petersville area . Ask for Alan they fix u up. They are a stihl dealer

Stihl MS362 & Stihl MS261-C.
I seem to remember JWalker mentioning someplace online not long ago but I can't find it. I know the 362 has a .50 gauge bar and 3/8 chain. The 261 may have a .43 gauge . Not exactly sure bout that one

362 is .050" - 3/8" 84 drive links
261 is .063 - .325" 81 drive links
Just wondering what online retailers and brands of chains & bars folks that make a living with a saw are happy with.

I have an MS261.
That saw can come with a 16", 18", or 20" bar.
I wanted the 18" bar/chain on mine.
It has 74 drive links, the 20" has 81.
Keep that in mind when purchasing.
Know your length...

Just wondering what online retailers and brands of chains & bars folks that make a living with a saw are happy with. Been logging 38 yrs an i think Oregon is the best .Carlton used be good so did stihl but not annymore. I have ran every chain saw ever made from stihl ,husky, pioneer, dolmar, echo, craftsman . Cut timber by hand for yrs . Now run equipment . . Also work on them on the side . . Best files is pherd . Only find them online . Can’t wear them out but expensive. Oregon bars have replacement tips but I doubt anyone on here runs one enough to wear out tip . Tips have grease fitting holes in them . Stihl bars wear out too quick . Oregon chains last longer an stay sharp longer if u know how to hand file them . Some have a different color on one link like yellow or orange . That tells u the kickback rating of the chain. Most folks need the safest rating chain . All this is from experience an just my opinion.

When the chain teeth are about 1/2 gone.....I like to grind the drags down a good bit. If the saw has the horsepower it will pull a doctored chain and EAT that wood up!!!! But don't try this at home....WE are Professionals!!

They run high CC saws that are fairly light , with a 20-22" bar normally . Have mercy they'll cut! If they run into a really big tree or two their go to saw won't handle , they'll tell the skidder driver , "brang me the big saw ."

The new Oregon "versacut" bars suck. They dont last. Theyre aluminum core or something. They bend too easy. The old "power match" bars are really good. Theyre a bit heavier but last alot longer. Theyll cost you $10-15 more, if you can even find them, but worth every penny. And no skip tooth for me. I want every tooth i can get to do some cutting
