You ever go into a gun store and have no idea what you’re going for? I did that a few weeks ago.
I’ve always wanted a bench style rifle and never had one. I’ve also always had soft spot for 700s.
Well, they had a new model 700 Long Range 308 made in La Grange GA. The new ones come stock with a Timney trigger and this one is in a HS Precision stock and a 26 inch threaded barrel. I topped it off with a 6.5x20x50 CDT VX3HD on a 20 MOA rail.
I sighted it in with a 100 yard zero and was happy to see it shoot 3 one hole 3 shot groups with 168 gr OTM factory ammo. I took it to 300 and shot 1 group of three shots in a little over an inch.
So far I’ve ran about 80 rounds through it from 100 to 675 and have been really happy with it. It was pretty stiff when I first got it and it felt like it had a tight head space, but it feels like it’s breaking in nicely. The only thing that I’ve had a complaint about is the pin that holds the bolt retention lever walked out and I had to take it out of the stock and press it back in. Probably needs a dab of lock tight.
It’s just shy of 11 lbs and with a 7” Thunderbeast can it’s a lot of fun to shoot.
In case anyone is wondering about the quality of the new 700s, I give it a thumbs up, especially for a $950 rifle.

Congrats on the new rifle. Outstanding accuracy with factory ammo. Every so often the stars align and the gun gods smile down upon us.
Enjoy!

Yessir! I’m always gonna shoot what makes me happy and I want everyone else to do the same! If you shoot one be proud of it and don’t worry what anyone else thinks. - SJ22

I have not shot one but I have held and given one a pretty good visual. I think Remington may have gathered their ducks back in a row. Note to Remington: bring back the satin finished 700 ADL walnut stock from the '80's.
Remember: It aint what you shoot...it's how you shoot it.

While I used to be a fan of the older, real Remington, their in-and-out of business and quality control lottery over the last 30 years makes me wish they’d just disappear already. We’ve got Bergera, Christennsen, and plenty of others that can do better 700s than Remington ever did. We’ve also got tons of other push feed actions these days. CRF options are limited, but not PF. Older Remington stuff was great. Was.
We don’t need the constant teasing/scammming that’s all Remington has become.

We don’t need the constant teasing/scammming that’s all Remington has become. That seems short sighted Has Remington been all over the board, yes without a doubt. Are Americans in Lagrange Georgia a mere 35mins from my house gainfully employed producing firearms, yes absolutely

I’ve bought new Remington rifles and shotguns over the last 10 years and have never gotten a single bad one.

Yesterday we shot. Took a couple shots to get dialed just right. Chart said 29.4 MOA but it was really 28.5. After I got dialed in, I was holding less than MOA groups. Dead calm wind with a light drizzle.
It started to walk at about the 9th round and have to let it cool.
I’m at about to 100 round mark now and it’s breaking in nicely.
