Looking at buying one of these for some public land hunting and fishing. Anyone have one? Are they better brands than Kodiak? Any advise on these cavas style before I buy one? Thanks
Side note, I’ve camped my entire life out of tents and campers. But we always had regular tents, not the canvas’s material. Have a pop up now that I use, mainly looking to down size, and be able to take my sxs where permitted. And these canvas seem to be taller more usable room in them.
Looking at this one..

I've got the 10x10 Deluxe VX version of the Kodiak. Its a great tent and plenty roomy for two. The material quality is very high and design is about ideal, IMHO. Setup is pretty quick once you've done it a time or two. The Deluxe VX has the side mesh and zippered canvas panels. It really opens up for ventilation or view. Its worth the upcharge.
These are the folks I got my tent from. They have good prices, service, and some helpful videos of the product line. Competitive Edge Products

You can't go wrong with a Kodiak tent, unless you're thinking you're going to pack it in somewhere on your back
Solid tents and that link to competitive edge is where I got mine as well.
Watch this Video and you'll see all the options:

I’ll check it out. I have a trailer I’m making a front storage area. Completely sealed off and keep all my camping gear in it. And have enough room on the back for my SXS to fit on. Thats my end goal anyway

I guarantee to nobody here uses these tents more than I do, I leave some setup all year until the sun kills them. I changed my post because most of you will never induce or experience the flaw.
Laugh it up if you want 🤣😂🤣

I have properties in six different states to get away from the heat or change my latitude, some I just leave a tent setup on a deck now…not the ground.
I have a primary house, a beach house, and a mountain cabin and two houses in Alabama I use when the deer, horse, and yellow flies ain’t in season. One on the Burnt Corn, the other on Little River.
I have small camping trailers too, I’m gonna stay on the go till I can’t go no mo !
Additionally I have great lodging all over the planet this Military ID gives me access too. 🤣😂🤣🇺🇸

The only other thing I'd recommend is to carefully evaluate the size tent you need. Bigger is always great once you're there and its set up, but these are fairly heavy, bulky tents and sometimes finding a level spot that a 10x10 fits on can be a challenge. We use ours for travel and vehicle space is at a premium, but for hunting the larger tent may be the way to go.

I bought an RBM Outdoors Panda Air inflatable and set it up on a fake wood deck under a sunshade fabric canopy. Have a platform bed with Queen Futon Mattress in it.
I really like the features and construction of these tents. I was skeptical at first but they are tough.
Futons are the best outdoor mattresses known to man. Cheap foam core that doesn’t get hard or such the heat out of you in cold weather and wrapped in cotton batting. In the winter I use polartec sheets and pillow cases and an unzipped Cabelas Outfitter XL or 44 mag as my covers.

OP, the tent you pictured is still a very good tent, just trench around the uphill side or set on an elevated platform for heavy rains. I had the 10x14 Flexbow VX but it was a beast for temporary short stay locations

Watched a few videos on the RBM tents. They are pretty cool.
bunch of bad advice here. Kodiak is just an old school canvas tent. They are decent but same as 1960. Suck to assemble and overall serviceable but just a cheap wall tent at their price point. I honestly think the Wall tents they have sold over the years at Wal-Mart are just as good. A real good wall tent will cost you more and not be mass-manufactured.
For something more modern with better fabric look at the Gazelle tents. Large and may not fit in the car but worth every penny I've base camped hunted out of one for about 3 years now.
Best thing I ever bought for a hunting base camp is an 18 wheeler tarp. I tie that off between 2 trees with ratchet straps which is quick and easy. Assemble MOST of the camp under that. At that point your tent doesn't matter as much. We just use one of those mesh pop-up tents you might see at the beach for example for Summer fishing trips and that is all we need as far as a "tent". Trap is probably best thing I have ever purchased.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.
Goatkiller is correct about a good tarp over camp.
I don’t even camp in the summer unless I’m above 8k feet so thats maybe a week per month at some location. From October until mid May I camp at least 2 days per week somewheres usually hunting.
Davis tents are a legit, quality tent. I kept it cheap and grabbed an Ozark Trail 10x12 on sale for $225 from WalMart. It has the woodstove jack, a nice floor you can add and did it did well in the Idaho winter temps. Poles are the weak spot if setting up solo so, I'm careful. I prefer the wall tents because the dimensions are true since the walls do not slant inward.
