ANyone have any reccomendations for a decent outdoor ceiling fan? I need to replace a couple on our screened in porch and add one on the covered part of the open deck. Seems like they dont last very long these days, I have tried hampton bay and hunter recently without a lot of success.

Thanks in advance,

Jason

If you have high enough ceilings, northern tool sells a big outdoor fan that moves a ton of air. Homedepot has one that’s a little smaller (84”) and I’m bout to install one tonight or tomorrow at my house. They’re pretty good

Just plastic blades. Most are these days, but check. Wood and the composite particle board stuff will warp and rot in the humidity.

Yeah its not the blades warping that the problem, the motors quit motoring and the lights quit lighting way too soon. The last ones, Hampton bay (lowes brand?) only lasted a couple years before they died and these are on a fairly large screened in porch.

Make sure you check the CFM's (air flow). I bought one years ago that had fan blades that looked like palm leaves. After installing it, we discovered you couldn't even feel the air movement and it was an eight foot ceiling. I took it back to Lowes and replaced it with a much higher CFM unit.

Not a traditional ceiling fan, but Air King makes a ceiling mount unit that does well outdoors, under cover. Made in USA, and have been very reliable for us.

Thanks for the information, I really like the air king types of fans. They are great. I use a swamp fan on the back deck to keep cooler. Maybe I should just put up lights in place of the fans and roll. I think it might help a little keeping bbq smoke moved out from under the roof when you have a ceiling fan running but not sure it matters. I'll give that a shot and see how it goes.

Jason

If money is no object then a bigass fan. There’s a couple companies similar to that I’d try and find.

This. Been researching the same and these would be great if they weren't north of $800 for the lower tier line. They will move some air, though. We have 2 fans on our porch that we're looking to replace with one big one.

experience is a freakin' awesome teacher....

This. And remember, the less blades, the more air it moves.

The one I was talking about at northern tool is $800

43,000 cfm. Buddy of mine has 2 under his porch. They move a ton of air.

We've had great luck with these fans in our outdoor venues over the years. We've had some in use for over 4 years in commercial settings, they all still function perfectly, no bearing noise and the finish has held up great. They are nothing fancy, no remote or light option but if you just need a durable and (somewhat) attractive fan this is the ticket.
