I’m purchasing a home built in the 90s and the windows are in rough shape and few are fogged.
Before moving in, I’m planning to get them all replaced.

What “type” of window should I be looking for?
Any gimmicks to avoid?
Reputable installers in Pensacola area?

I want a good value. Not cheapest and not highest end.

Double hung on top floor if two story. Double pane and gas filled. Low-e, I’d go with pella series

Good luck…I’ve spent years doing research. I’d look at Marvin Essential. All fiberglass and handles heat well. If you need jamb extensions I’ve been told the Marvin Elevate with a wood interior is the better route. It’s the installation side I struggle with. Most want to slam a pocket window in with coil stock trim wrap and move on. Check out Houston Window Experts on YouTube.

I remodeled a house from the 60s with MI brand and I’m using them again. The first house was low E tint. This house I went with HP tint. It is a little darker. It cost more but order without grids and it’ll just about even back out. I’ve had no problem with this brand so far, but haven’t used other brands either. Single hung.

find a reputable millwork that’s been around longer than 15 years. pvc trim on the exterior , no wood regardless of what they claim it’s treated with or how long it will last. get a painter scheduled to come asap to caulk and paint. some people won’t caulk, some will and if they do a bad job, the painter should have noticed it and fixed their mistake blah blah. did window and door replacement through college and a few years after.

do NOT use windowworld. i have seen too many horror stories and botched jobs than i can remember

Yep. Vinyl. Low e. Double pane.
And 1/4 round on inside at least to cover crack
From old window removal if needed.
