I’m done disking

No need in it. Plots are better, thicker, better when dry.

If it stays damp, clover will grow there. I think balansa likes damp ground.

I would broadcast rye way before wheat. If you have any turkeys at all, they will be on the wheat in no time. They don't seem to key on the rye as much. Cereal rye is my go to now. I don't even try to plant wheat, and oats are a PITA to get out of my spreader. Crimson clover does well, Arrowleaf is awesome if you can get it established. I am waiting to see one plot this fall, if the arrowleaf established from last fall. That stuff was nearly 3 feet tall by the end of May.

Of course I love me some Whitetail clover. If you can get it established, deer will camp out in it. So will turkeys.

So I sprayed my fields about a week ago and they are dead and the grass is laying over. I just put the seed out, do I need to mow it now so the grass won’t come back?

My seed is still in the barn. Jeez I see zero rain in the 15 day forecast. Typical October

Actually this is not a typical October. Average rainfall for October is about a 3.7” and the Dothan news reported this morning 0” for the first time in many years. I did get .5” this month but that’s a far cry from almost 4”.

Not lately. and October is historically the driest month on record in Ala.. Two years ago I got 1 inch in October. I’ve planted into first week of November the last three years. Frustrating

Mowing is to cover the seed, akin to roadsides after they seed them and spread chopped hay on top. If your sprayed grass is laying down enough, no need to mow and you may can get away with rolling/dragging it to make it lay down better. The only grass that'll come back is cool weather grass/weeds. Summer grass/weeds are pretty much done after frost.

Update on the Tuckier Tract and the Throw and Mow Planting: Came up and looked great! Unbelievable how green it was and the deer hammered it! Now with no rain in 4 weeks it is all dead. Nothing left. It was not the Throw and Mows fault-This drought is killing everything here in North West Alabama. I am waiting to plant again when the next rain is in the forecast but plan this time on disking and then planting.

I can't stand a thief.
