I have probably 40 pieces of vintage cast iron, ranging from Griswold to BSR. My BSR are workhorses and the Griswold and Wagners are more of the Cadillac type. I also have received some of the newer Lodge, and I always burn off the garbage “seasoning” and re-season at least 8 times. Then they are gtg.

I love the old cast iron. I have a bunch of it and cook in it all the time. I like a smooth finish.

Don't matter to me really, got a small one that dates back to civil war era and my Frien said he wouldn't TOUCH IT and just cook on and enjoy it
Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!

What ever you do just wipe it clean with a paper towel.

They weren't that old, but probably circa 1930s or earlier if she inherited them. I don't know what became of them - I suspect that my crazy (literally) aunt ended up with them and probably started using them as dog food bowls.

I have a two or three generation hand down cast iron skillet, 12" and the surface is so smooth and shiny you can see yourself. Makes perfect cornbread every time! Use it for many of my recipes, especially making roux. My kids will fight over it when I am gone!
If you can't laugh at your mistakes, go home.

I have a lot of my moms old stuff but my new favorite that I use the most is the chicken fryer I bough (with lid). 6” sides is just high enough to fry fish, shrimp, chicken, cube steak, etc. , and is pretty big diameter.
Everything woke turns to shucks
