Got one for running a red light. The wife and I were coming home from a date night and I saw the light turning and goosed it. Ticket came in the mail and I told her no way I ran that light and I’m not paying that crap. She said, Oh look there is a link to the video. Yep, I ran it 🤦🏻♂️
Here in Opelika? I know not too long ago they took down the cameras locally.

If the town has had the State Legislature give them permission to put up cameras, and this has to be specific to each municipality, then they are Civil offenses. The only way you can be jailed for it is if you recieve a Summons from a judge and ignore it. then you can be found in Contempt of Court. Since they are Civil offenses the worst they can do is turn it over to a Collection Agency and have it affect your credit rating. It is Civil so the offense can be held against the vehicle and not the driver, therefore, the owner of the vehicle is responsible for paying so being the owner and saying you weren't driving won't relieve you as being responsible.
My biggest gripes are that they are just an end run around Alabama's Criminal Procedures by going as a civil offense since Alabama Criminal Procedure require that an offense be committed in an officer's precense to be cited for it. Even worst yet to me is that the cameras are mostly put up by a private company out of Arizona. This company collects and keeps the lion's share of the fine and gives the city an agreed upon small percent. My biggest gripe and I can't say this loud enough is that MY LAW ENFORCEMENT ETHICS DICTATE THAT NO ONE PROFIT FROM THE ENFORCEMENT OF LAWS. OK, that rant is over. I hate the things but for different reasons than most people.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Why are the cameras being dealt with civilly yet the officer given speeding ticket can be dealt with criminally

Jawbone this was in Selma. I haven’t received it yet but it very clearly took my picture. Did the camera blink twice? If it only blinked once then it did not take your picture. Selma has permission to place those from the state legislature so it is legal, not ethical IMO, but legal. Now I would never tell anyone to ignore the law but I will say that I've known plenty of people in Selma that have gotten one and ignored it without any repercussions other than threatening follow up letters. Now, read that last sentence again and make up your own mind what to do.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

No one was at the intersection but someone was behind me. I felt like if I stopped he would’ve rear ended me so I eased through. It blinked twice. I’m figuring it’ll be hard for it to get my tag since the tractor (with bucket) was on the trailer and I have a big toolbox on the front of the trailer. I guess we will see

Unless you sign for a letter, the letter was never delivered to you. How can you pay a fine you don’t even know you have?
I bet everyone on this forum has had mail get lost before.
You're only as good as your worst shot-

FYI, when it first blinked it started filming. When you get a letter it will give you a site to go to watch the video. I'm not sure who is reviewing them at the PD anymore. If you find out, let me know and I'll tell you how amenable they are to reducing them to warnings.
