We got one in the mail back in 2019 from one of those small towns on the way to PCB. My son got it in my wife’s car. Said they could not issue a tag on it if it was t paid. Never had a problem and we actually sold the car last year. The ticket went to that car and not a driver. So in my simple mind I believe it’s case closed. And the ticket was 32 in a 25

Got one for running a red light. The wife and I were coming home from a date night and I saw the light turning and goosed it. Ticket came in the mail and I told her no way I ran that light and I’m not paying that crap. She said, Oh look there is a link to the video. Yep, I ran it 🤦🏻‍♂️

Here in Opelika?
I know not too long ago they took down the cameras locally.

If you read the ticket it says it won't go against your driving record or your credit report so why would anyone pay it? I threw it away and haven't heard a thing from it.

Wife got a ticket in Montgomery several years for running a red light. They included a picture and she clearly ran it. However, the car was in my name so the ticket was sent to me. I didn’t run no red light so I threw it in the trash and never heard another
word.

If the town has had the State Legislature give them permission to put up cameras, and this has to be specific to each municipality, then they are Civil offenses. The only way you can be jailed for it is if you recieve a Summons from a judge and ignore it. then you can be found in Contempt of Court. Since they are Civil offenses the worst they can do is turn it over to a Collection Agency and have it affect your credit rating. It is Civil so the offense can be held against the vehicle and not the driver, therefore, the owner of the vehicle is responsible for paying so being the owner and saying you weren't driving won't relieve you as being responsible.

My biggest gripes are that they are just an end run around Alabama's Criminal Procedures by going as a civil offense since Alabama Criminal Procedure require that an offense be committed in an officer's precense to be cited for it. Even worst yet to me is that the cameras are mostly put up by a private company out of Arizona. This company collects and keeps the lion's share of the fine and gives the city an agreed upon small percent. My biggest gripe and I can't say this loud enough is that MY LAW ENFORCEMENT ETHICS DICTATE THAT NO ONE PROFIT FROM THE ENFORCEMENT OF LAWS. OK, that rant is over. I hate the things but for different reasons than most people.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Well said. And it would make one think that any ticket even issued by a LEO could be turned into something civil. Why are the cameras being dealt with civilly yet the officer given speeding ticket can be dealt with criminally

Because Municipalities in Alabama are prohibited from making and enforcing civil law unless specifically granted permission to do so (camera tickets), therefore all municipal laws are criminal violations.

Did the camera blink twice? If it only blinked once then it did not take your picture.

Selma has permission to place those from the state legislature so it is legal, not ethical IMO, but legal. Now I would never tell anyone to ignore the law but I will say that I've known plenty of people in Selma that have gotten one and ignored it without any repercussions other than threatening follow up letters. Now, read that last sentence again and make up your own mind what to do.

If you ever drive through the DFW area, don't ignore the tolls from NTTA. They will ruin your credit record with unpaid charges and add on fees if you do so.

Yes, right in front of Tiger Town. This was last year before they were removed.

Yeah it blinked twice. Was pulling a tractor home and light turned yellow. No one was at the intersection but someone was behind me. I felt like if I stopped he would’ve rear ended me so I eased through. It blinked twice. I’m figuring it’ll be hard for it to get my tag since the tractor (with bucket) was on the trailer and I have a big toolbox on the front of the trailer. I guess we will see

Unless you sign for a letter, the letter was never delivered to you. How can you pay a fine you don’t even know you have?

I bet everyone on this forum has had mail get lost before.

I sold a car once and it was trailered back to Asheville NC. Somehow I forgot to take the tag off and Georgia mailed me a ticket for being in the ride share lane. Guy who bought the car paid the fine.

Tyler I’d be surprised with all that on there it got a complete tag pic if any. Now if you have a tag on the trailer that’s what might get you.

FYI, when it first blinked it started filming. When you get a letter it will give you a site to go to watch the video. I'm not sure who is reviewing them at the PD anymore. If you find out, let me know and I'll tell you how amenable they are to reducing them to warnings.
