Why would they waste their time cutting comm wires? Satellites are doing a better job. I was thinking the same thing.

CNN has an article out today about submarine cutting communication cables connecting Sweden and Lithuania.

Not sure the Russians are that up-to-date Up until SpaceX took over for NASA their space program was on par with ours. International Space Station, reliable Russian rockets got most of that metal up there.

Correct. They would just have to cut nearly all of them because its a webbed network. And they still have satellite that works better anyway. Cellular is harder to knock out than folks think too because smart phones work across all kinds of things. However, Vlad could and possibly really might pop-off a high altitude EMP and that would knock out electricity of all forms across most of Europe.

Your cell goes to a tower, that goes to a cable. If all the cables went down you'd feel like you like you are sucking concrete through a straw. Most people especially institutions are running on high bandwidth cable. Sure, satellite exist but it's a back up for the most part. You arne't going to run 100% of the world's internet traffic through satellites that can handle 5%. Think of the worst traffic jam you ever saw in your life. You guys are thinking like some guy looking up aldeer to catch up on the news. You aren't thinking about the gazillions amount of data from your bank, government, etc... going through cables every day. Here's the big rub, we ain't talking about an inconvenience. NATO and the US is highly dependent on Internet for combat operations. Everything is integrated and wired to a large system, from the grunt in the field to the fighter jet in the sky. It's much more sophisticated than I even thought. As far as missle defense you got dozens of radar and missle defense batteries all over Western Europe and the N. pole talking to each other. If a nuke was launched over Finland, it's not going to be a person that recognizes it and pushes a button to launch a patriot missile to knock it out of the sky. It's all done automatically. Basically, the system will let you know what just happened. These stations and batteries lock on a missle from different points to triangulate. It really is crazy to think of a missile knocking another missle out of the sky. Think of stopping a bullet, but shooting a bullet from your gun at it. If there's a missle launch having a station or two cut off or just delayed just a few fractions of a second could through off the defense system for the whole continent. . It's a definitely a precursor to an attack.

You can also hook your phone to a television or HAM radio and get a signal to work with. Slow as molasses yes, but good enough for text. But, if they really are cutting cables, then yes it is a precursor to an attack. Its going to slow folks down but its not going to knock them out. The US systems, we hope, are not dependent on ocean wires. The old analogue systems in 1984 we feared while Reagan and the Day After TV Mini-series was on can still work the same way today.

Anchors have "accidentally" cut undersea cables plenty of times. Yep it'll hurt comms for the normal person, but critical systems should (not always) have redundant paths that aren't always of the same type. Pretty interesting to hear you bubbas talk about this.

How would all this keep Trump out? When Trump gets in office the BAN HAMMER will happen! Dems just want to cause trouble to make more money.

Your right those cables are there for the heck of it. Just like Spectrum runs cables all around my neighborhood. Let's just take out half the telephone poles run all the traffic through the remaining lines and see what happens. For me, it just means some extra lag playing call of duty, but for a sophisticated continental AI run missile defense system... These systems detect, triangulate and fire in milliseconds. These missile defense systems and the entire coordination between battleships, planes, etc.. are not run by a guy with a ham radio and flashlight. Our military and defense systems run on the backbone and push the limits of bandwidth capability. That's the achilles heal of the west. We have a lot of cool toys that give us the upper hand, but turn off the router or just slow it down and we are cooked.
