While Assad was certainly an evil man, when he was in power Syria was kept in check. Mark my words, now it will just be a terrorist base of operations that will be a thorn in the side of the Western world. In the game of pick your poison, it is best to pick the one that can be kept in check. With Assad, we didn't even have to do it, Russia did it for us. Now our best bet is for the terrorists that take over Syria turn their wrath towards Russia, since they were the ones keeping Assad in power for so long.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Russia just said that Assad and his family are safe in Russia right now. Russia also says Assad is no longer in power and Syria has fallen. Russia is going to allow Assad "basic" protections and allow "talks". Whatever that means.
I guess they are going to give Assad's family citizenship protections and probably execute Assad for mission failure or use him as a tool like they usually do with political prisoners.

Israel has claimed control over the area of Syria known as the safe area that borders Israel. They intend to keep it. Jordan is also forward covering their border well into Syria. Lebanon is about to be split in half and no longer be called Lebanon. They got themselves a full blown mixed up mess of a war now.
