Over a million law enforcement interactions yesterday. Something to put into perspective.

This is why I hate that Alabama law allows police body cams to be withheld from public view. After 30 days it should become part of the public domain.

Cops have pretty much become tax collectors for the municipality they work for. They do nothing to protect or serve anymore. At least not the ones I've had interactions with.

The “serve” in “protect and serve” means to serve warrants and legal documents.

Didn’t black guy have a gun in his hand or not?

I’m not condoning anything just lay out all the facts. Don’t leave something relevant out

This entire incident was caught on the neighbor's surveillance video. If someone, that you believe has no right to, is taking your vehicle from your yard, aren't you going to confront them with a gun? I know I more than likely would. While standing there with your gun in your hand, people who you didn't know were hiding beside your house run out yelling. When you are startled, what is your natural reaction no matter what they may be yelling? I know what mine would be and I would probably be just as dead as this guy.

Putting yourself in that situation will only bring you trouble 100% of the time. Has nothing to do with being a pussy or less of a man, it's simply not worth the risk of dying, killing someone else or ending up in jail for the majority of the rest of your life. If the guy in Decatur had followed that line of thinking, he would be alive today.

Glad I’m not one of the “useless” ones.

No but there’s plenty of them around here. If you’re going to provide a service for the amount of money they charge, at least look like you’re making an effort.

Long story, but i lost all respect for law enforcement when I caught a dude breaking in my parents house. They let him go and said they ought to take me to jail, because it's against the law to hold someone against their will in alabama.

I had 2 different instances where I thought I needed their assistance. Both times I wound up doing all the investigating myself and both times I found the perps and turned the info over to the investigators. The first time they did nothing because it was one of their own who was responsible and the second time they did nothing because they already had the person on other charges. I learned that calling the law limited my options for justice by putting the incident on record. I haven't made that mistake again in 20 years since even when I had a series of break ins years ago.

I tell this to people all the time. The police officer or Deputy takes the initial report and investigation. Once he/she finishes that part it’s turned over to the Detectives, I go back to my regular Patrol duties. Most agencies only have a couple detectives and they are way backed up on cases and felony cases are put to the front of the line. I tell them it’s best to try to do your own investigation and either turn it over to detectives or handle the justice part yourself. Don’t wait on us!!
