Question for some of you wise, more "well seasoned" gents. If you received an small amount of inheritance money (around 4K), how would you spend it? Long story short, I was supposed to get my grandfather's coin collection when he passed but it got auctioned off before it got to me. I'm torn between buying something really nice for myself (nice gun, high end guitar) to pass onto one of my kids, or buy them each something really nice for each of them to keep in the family. Some friends have suggested investing the money, but I'd like to buy something tangible that can be used. I have a nice Ruger M77 that was given to me by my uncle that I'd never sell, and an old Stanley tape measure that belonged to my grandfather that did woodworking- both are my prized possessions because I think of them every time I use them. I'd love to hear some suggestions of what y'all may have done in similar situations.

My dad didn’t have much of anything but tools, and a few guns, few knives I’d like to have.. long story short my older brother got the tools no dispute, I got a few guitars.. step mother has a lot of things of little value and no purpose for use that I’ll never see again… my grandmother gave me some inheritance that he left her bc he knew we’d never get it from his wife… my favorite thing to do with him was fish, so I bought a trolling motor and a livescope…. The most valuable things he gave me I will never loose… just a preference on your part.

My advice: Get something you can hold on to forever. Dont let the money get burned up on daily crap cause then you will have nothing to show for the gift from your grandfather.

When I was younger I'd have spent it on a gun or something now that I'm older I'd probably just stick it in the safe

Buy your kids Berkshire Hathaway B shares with it.

If it’s only $4k I’d likely get a tangible object to enjoy or the kids to enjoy, or a life experience (short trip, vacation etc). $4k invested is not going to likely help you long term in a major way. I’m sure others will disagree. You die either way. You can leave your kids experiences or leave them money in the bank.

Save it for a rainy day.

somebody has to, its a tradition. I dont know the price of hookers and blow but I dont think 4k is going to get very far. However, with a nice gun and you can shoot a drug dealer and have all the drugs and hookers you want.
