Just texted my buddy who is usually on the X more times than not. He went 3x last week and didn’t fire a shot. He’s ticked.

My other buddy did crush em this am. Of course he’s made a pretty good name for himself in the duck call world so he gets to hunt places most of us just read about.

I forgot my calls last week and hunted 2 days and my buddy never even asked me to call. Kind of hurt my feelings. haha.

Be ye not deceived….it’s all ways “too hot or too cold” for good duck hunting😁. At least that’s all I hear from my duck hunting buddies.
I’m sure it’s a blast once every 3 years when the conditions are right, but I don’t have time for another hobby that conflicts with deer season and requires a min 3.5hr drive one way.

It’s all over the map. Some are killing but most I’ve talked with are not. Talked to a buddy that’s heading over and doesn’t have good expectations. I’ve not paid to be in a lead the last two years. Just not worth i right now.
Lot of struggling going on
I’ll explain it like this
My buddy has had or been a part of a lease they’ve had since 95
When they got it one pit averaged 1200 a year and it stayed like that for another 10 or so and it started dwindling. The last really good year was about 400 and 2014-15 give or take. Last year it didn’t hit 100 killed and haven’t heard about this year. My last year it hit 350 plus or so which was two years ago and it was the only hole that killed for 30 plus days. I haven’t heard a single place say it’s been awesome or even worthy.
Like the guy from bust a duck said, 1% of the duck hunters have 90% of the ducks The ones consistently killing have large non-pressured rest areas all around their kill holes.

The dudes down by us shot a roost the other night. The last bunch of shots was at 5:38 pm. Unreal how they have decimated what once was an unbelievable wood duck roost and population. Used to have 500+ ducks fly over our swamps every morning and afternoon now it's about a dozen. Have notified GWs multiple times but every year they shoot way before and way after legal light. I've seen the same thing happen south of Tuscaloosa. There used to be holes you could sit and watch 2-300 wood ducks fly over every day for a decade. Last couple of years there's been a group of 18-20 year old kids from Birmingham come and kill every single duck possible and post it on the internet. They'll have a "9 man limit" hunting out of a 16', $40,000 boat. Now that the ducks are gone, so are they. It's a shame.

Duck hunting is ruined. Shot too many and killed all the birds that migrate. Now we just shoot at the birds that stay right on the ice line and some days you kill a few but most days you don't.
I don't think anyone consistently kills birds anymore. You hear about so and so killing a billion on day or the next but like deer hunting unless you have a massive piece of property with some sanctuary you are screwed.
Overhunted.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Those of us who hunted the Mississippi Delta had many discussions about the change in waterfowl in the area. We all agreed that a change in farming practices had a lot to do with the lack of birds as well......along with the pressure. In the past, farmers would flood fields after harvest to help control weeds. Now, with "Round-Up ready" crops, there is no need and there are nowhere near the flooded fields there used to be for the ducks. Instead of vast expanses of shallow water for ducks to feed in, there is miles and miles of dirt.
The true mark of a man is not how he conducts himself during times of prosperity, but how he conducts himself during times of adversity.
