Ice storm in January 1982. Power was out for days.

Certainly not the biggest in history but January 2018 was my most memorable. Mainly cause it was y daughters first time seeing snow. Auburn got about 5 inches and it actually stuck on the ground for a couple days. Also killed a big buck in the snow so that was fun also.

There were several in the 80s that were bigger events than the ones in the 90s. We were out of school for several weeks. One storm hit and another hit a week later. Over a foot and half of snow and ice for a few weeks. I had a paper route and had an intonation wagon to deliver with. That thing didn’t have enough power to spin the tires in the snow

We duck hunted Reynolds swamp by the airport and it literally froze on that afternoon while we were there. Killed big time. The next day we used a sledge hammer to break ice getting in and back out. Pretty sure I had hypothermia since I’d gotten wet retrieving some ducks. Miserable

In the early 90s Miss UNA was injured by a falling limb that hit her car. I’d photographed her pageant pics and she was a very sweet lady. That injury devastated her.
That same storm the building the studio was in never lost power so we cooked meals at Milestones for the utilities and first responders. There was one in 96 that was bad too and power was out for a week or so.

Mid 70's was ugly.
I remember a light snow April 4 late 80's maybe? Very rare for south Alabama.
I definitely remember the Mar 13 snow in 93 a well.
The worst to me though was the ice storm we had a few years ago.

I remember bird hunting at the river and being able to walk across the duck ponds instead of around them. Thought it was 93 but that wouldn’t have been March.

I’m seeing the 93 snow storm hit the middle of the state south and not up here in the NW corner. Seems it crippled Birmingham towards Atlanta

I’m 57 and the first snow I remember was Feb 9, 1973. Parents said we had around 10” in southeast Alabama. My mother was going through some old photos a few months ago and gave me a couple of pictures of it. I don’t remember ever having that depth of snow in any storm since. This was in Dale County.
