My son likes to take old computers and try to learn about them and install newer OS's on them and repair them. He wants to learn as much as he can from watching YouTube videos etc. He wants to get into IT at some point. Would anybody have any old computers that they no longer use, or are going to trash that would be willing to donate to the cause? Thanks in advance.

I have an old laptop I found in a shed. No idea how old. I'll make sure it's functioning and make sure I don't have any data I need. His if he wants it.
FYI, I.T. is a hard field to be successful in. They outsource all but the most menial jobs, (parts replacement). I'd maybe consider coding or gear toward law enforcement / security if I were going into the field today.

Look at state auctions - just check to see if they pulled the hard drives. You may have to buy a pallet of them.

I do and I go through Calera pretty often. Next time I'm in the basement I'll see if I can locate it. Send me a PM so I'll remember and tell him not to be in a rush to get it.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I have to figure out what parts I am allowed to mess with. Two teenager geniuses make a lot of computer parts and trash that look the same.

I do need to pull the hard drive, but everything else is there. If he ever wants to ask questions about IT, I am happy to try to answer. I have been working in IT since Jan 5, 1998. Everything from mainframe to cloud. Wrote my first program the summer of 1986 (just before 4th grade started) on an old Radio Shack TRS-80. Jeremy

Wow, I got a cassette deck and the right cable adapter for it. old Radio Shack TRS-80. We might have grown up in the same program.

I might also suggest looking into Coursera. They offer a Google IT Support Certificate that's free if completed in two weeks. If it takes him a little longer, it's like $45. Great option for him to get some experience with the software side of things and different operating systems.
