Who's the name to go with on air rifles? Been a minute since I've owned a good one. Primary use is target and squirrels.

I bought a relatively expensive Gamo years ago, with a .177 and .22 barrel. Gun was shat. I gave it away.

I don't care if it's .22 or .177, but leaning towards .22.

What's ya'lls brand? Suggestions? I'm scrolling bass pro now looking.

I had the same issue with my Gamo. It was crap. I got my son a Stoeger and it is a way better built gun and still not terribly expensive.

I have a friend that lives in Wisconsin that has a Benjamin Discovery(no longer made) pcp .22 caliber that he kills tons of varmints with.

I don’t know what the popular brands are now, but I’ve seen videos of modern air guns and they’re no joke.

I have a nice Beeman and it is powerful and very accurate. Not inexpensive for an air gun.

Interesting topic if I ever got another Id want a quiet tack driver (within reasonable limits of an air rifle).

I had a gamo..it was a piece of crap…i wont do that again…i tell you what was a good one..a benjamin super streak…claimed 1500fps with non lead ammo..an 1250 with lead…itd do almost 1400fps with lead😳…an they shot inside a dime..my buddy had one an they were awsome. Most guns claim a speed with their gun and gamo was bad inconsistent as were alot of cheaper guns..it was rare that youd run up on a mass produced gun that made ists speed claim and was accurate…hatsan did it both..and gas pistons helped on alot of other guns too.

I have no preference. That's why I started the topic. I just don't know what to be looking for.

I've got a Hatsan 95 in .22. It is extremely accurate. I wouldn't want to tote it in the woods though, as it is heavy. It is fun to plink with.

Looking at a few today.

I didn't even know Benjamin still made air rifles. This one.
I've only had the one break barrel. Like I said, it wasn't accurate. To me break barrels seem to be prone to being less accurate. Moving that barrel out of and back into alignment. Lots can happen.

I'm also looking at this one. Not break barrel. 1000fps. Umarex

I'm not apposed to co2. I've got one, but the peep is so small and with glasses, I can either find the peep or find the target but not both. They don't seem to be that powerful either.

At the moment I'm leaning towards the .177 under barrel pump with the 12 shot cartridge. Still comparing.

I have been looking at air rifles, but it is hard for me to justify an expensive one. I just need one to take out the house sparrows and starlings when they try and move in on my Martin gourds. The old pump daisies and cross, and do fine for that.
To the accuracy question…one big issue is the light pellets at those faster speeds cannot remain stable in flight and accuracy suffers. I have seen that a lot in the .177 caliber rifles I have. I bought some more expensive, heavier pellets, but it seems that once I get close to or above 1000fps, the problems begin. I have always been partial to my old cross man .22. Run it about 750 fps and it is a starling killer out to about 35 yards.
I’d love to get one of the pcp rifles but it just isn’t feasible for me.

If you do the things you need to do when you need to do them then someday you can do the things you want to do when you want to do them.

I won a Crossman Quest 800x springer. I wouldn’t have chosen it, myself, but works fine for what it is used for….armodillos in the yard. There is no tight grouping target shooting with the extremely long, sloppy trigger travel, but for football sized annoyances it works fine. I’d look at pump or co2, if I were purchasing a replacement for accuracy. The break barrel springer isn’t violent, per se, but the spring mechanism does have a bit of a jar to it when fired.

In the 80's I killed a little of everything with a crossman 760 pump master....I wouldn't mind having a decent newer style gun to plink with especially at 50yds or so...I'll be watching the thread as well🤔
