Mine isn't any louder on a 16" barrel AR 350L than it is on a 20" barrel 7-08. My son killed one last year out of a ladder stand with the 16" AR 350L and my ears rang for 2 days, thats what pushed me to buy the suppressor. I dont have any issues shooting without hearing protection even target practice.

Buy the lightest one you can get. Mines a brick. It's quiet and I'll never burn it out but it's heavy

Short barrel and a light can is the ticket. I hunt with an 18" barrel Bergara .308 and a Silencerco Omega 300. I opted to remove the QD attachment/QD muzzle device on gun/extended muzzle brake on end of can and went with a direct thread mount and flat end cap to shave as much weight and length from it as possible. It's very pleasant to tote and hunt with.

Well crap, now I guess I need to find someone to thread my Tikka barrel.....I am somewhat new in suppressors, got a .22 and a multi and had convinced myself to not put one on the 30-06.

I was riding around the club in Barbour Co one day a couple years back and saw a pig run out in the hayfield. I messed up and shot him out of my truck window with a 6.5 Grendel AR pistol and I guess I didn't have the barrel all the way out the window. I really don't know how it didn't break every glass in the cab of that truck but it sounded like a stick of dynamite went off in there with me. I felt me eyes bulge from the pressure when I torched that thing off.

I run a Deadair Sandman S suppressor. It's nice and quiet but relatively heavy so I'd go with something Titanium to shave some weight.

Sound reduction on autos is not as good, unless you get a suppressor with flow through technology. Also, shorter barrels can be loud. I changed suppressors on my M&P 10 in 308 and made a considerable difference in both sound and back flow.

Which one did you use? Thinking about 1 for my AR10.

the can will reduce the loud boom, nothing can stop the sound of the supersonic bullet, it just muffles the gas expulsion coming out the rifle. It will also help to hear the bullet whack the deer. One thing is the deer dont seem to be as bothered by it because they hear far off shots all the time and dont spook. The can will make it sound like a further shot to the deer so many will just stay in the field usually.

It isn't necessary to see a good tackle...you can hear it.

My 300 win mag I would say now is comparable to a 22. My 6.5 has a sound comparable to a 17

Recoil is maybe .223 punch, maybe

Sound is less than .22LR

Looks like they are getting a bill ready to remove suppressors from the NFA. Could it be? (Said in my best Oak Island commentator voice)

I would use silencer shop. I believe their process is the fastest. It quietens my 308 down to a little less than a 22. Seems like I always read that good suppressor get it down to 130-135 with supersonic ammo.

Get ready to read a million opinions on which suppressor is best. Personally, I would get direct thread if this is for a hunting rifle. Quick disconnect mounts cost money, aren’t necessary, and add a decent amount of weight.

My .06 is louder than a 22, but as AWT6 said. You don't need ear protection.

As stated, titanium is the way to go. I looked at several, and bit the bullet on a CAT JL. Got a buddy at work that is a real nerd about suppressors, I think he has 7 total.
He reads pew science and gets all into the breakdown of the db's vs weight yada yada yada. He bought one and let me shoot it and I was sold. It is a little longer than I would like but is not really heavy.

If you need a barrel threaded, I had good luck at Precision Tactical. The Hoover store has a full set up/machine shop to do a good job threading. I stripped my gun down to the barrel and trigger assembly. $130

For you that have had a barrel threaded, did you cut off any length of barrel? I think my Tikka has a standard 22.4” barrel, how much can you cut off without losing accuracy?

Generally, you’ll lose velocity by cutting down a barrel but not necessarily accuracy. The velocity will affect your trajectory.

The .06 I use mine on was originally 26”

I had it cut down to 22”. Threaded 1/2x28

I do run a 5/8x24 adapter on it just to cut down on swapping direct thread modules.

Smaller powder charges and lower pressure at the spout suppress better. Larger calibers lose less velocity when shortened. The cost of threading a barrel is usually a pretty good discount off a .308 that's already threaded. An 18" $400 Ruger American is only $250 if you were going to have to pay $150 to get your /06 threaded.

Performance of different suppressors isn't a lot different, but improvements are being made constantly. The main thing is for a hunting rifle is whether you are concerned with weight. Most people want light, but if you tote it in a sxs and only sit in shooting houses maybe not. When I bought one for deer rifles, Silencerco Harvester Evo was a great choice and I've been pleased with it. Since I bought it a local manufacturer came out with an equivalent can, so I would have got that instead. The one I'm thinking about buying now is a different design that came out since I bought the Evo. See where I'm going with this? It's hard to recommend something when the state of the art is constantly advancing.

Then again, a pair of electronic ear muffs or plugs are pretty cheap. Bluetooth is pretty sweet.
