Im due new batteries in my boat and looking at swapping over to lithium but i have some questions. For a cranking battery, the lead acid batteries are rated for cranking amps and amp hours, but it seems that most lithium I have seen are only rated for amp hours. Are there specific lithium cranking batteries out there or are people just using the amp hour batteries for cranking batteries too? My cranking battery runs everything in the boat except the trolling motor. I only have an old hummingbird SI/DI unit now but looking at potentially adding FFS. Can you use a regular battery charger to charge to the lithium batteries or do you need a lithium specific charger?

You can buy a lithium cranking battery but they are very expensive. I use cheap lithiums for the TM and the LS, but still have a lead acid cranking battery. You are likely going to need a new charger for lithium batteries unless you have a charger now that's rated for lithium. Most of the older ones are not, but the good news is that you can buy a decent 12/24 volt lithium charger for about $75.

Tariffs are going to start hitting everything lithium, maybe already has.

Do not run lithium batteries for cranking battery unless you really like Fire. 95% of engines running the rivers do not have the capability to charge lithium, which will result in a fire that you cannot put out. Very poor choice.

Thanks for the input I will definitely stay with lead acid for cranking.

The newer chargers can handle all three. STD, AGM, and Lithium. That said, I only use NOCO chargers for my lithium batteries. I plan to run a 50ah lithium whenever my dealer gets the Xplorer 12 and Mega Live 2 in stock.

Just put in a 12 v 120 amp cranking battery and two 36 v 60 amp impulse lithiums this week.
