Contractor I just heard from a buddy in mobile is trying to hire other folks to do concrete. He’s in a bind realizing folks won’t do it for .75 cent a foot from ground up for labor since his labor force has dried up.

this may not be a popular comment but, i`m glad i finished my house a few months ago. construction prices bout to sky rocket for a little while Yep. There is a flip side to getting them out of here. They’re doing a lot of hard skilled work that contractors won’t be able to find. I’m not supporting illegal workers, but this will cause some stuff to go up in costs. Probably delay some construction type work too.

They go home this time of year and return mid spring through October. May not be as many this year. Hiring locals that want off at 4:00 in the farming world won’t cut it. Need folks that work til it gets done, start back at daylight. Concrete roofing flooring bricks Sheetrock all foreigners from what I’m around. Be careful what you ask for. If all illegals were to suddenly disappear, there are a lot of industries that will come to nearly a complete stop.

Hiring them for chump change ain’t keeping housing cost down nor are savings being passed on to the consumer. Its more money in the pockets of the ones contracting the job.
oh i beg to differ

I can guarantee you they aint working for chump change. Maybe years ago but definitely not now. Their value has went up significantly and they know it. They have established their own communities with resources. In general some of the happiest, hardest working, family oriented people I know. I just wish they paid taxes like us😁

So do you think if they all get deported, then replaced with skilled American labor that the cost of building a house won’t go up? I can assure you it will. There’s not a contractor on the planet that will absorb that kind of cost.

If they leave and then come back maybe they have valid work visas for that period of time. The workers that are running to evade ICE are probably illegals with some sort of criminal record. No way ICE has time yet to go after the plain old working folks who just crossed illegally, They’ve said repeatedly they are going after the criminals first. Correct; but they have also said if they encounter other illegals when going after "criminals" with a record(they have all broken the law, by definition) they will take into custody any other illegals they find in the home or workplace while arresting those.
