Bout to sell a car outright rather than trading it in. How do those who have done it take payment? Meet at their bank and get cash? In this day and age definitely leery of taking a check or even a cashiers check.

And if anybody needs a nice reliable 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport AWD with new engine (performed by dealer under factory warranty), let me know and I'll pay the classified fee if anybody buys from here. It's good reliable transportation for a teen or getting groceries.

If they need it financed let them do it through a bank, get the cash and bring it to you. Self financing would be a headache to you. If the bank won't lend them money that ought to tell you what you need to know about what would happen if you depended on them to pay you like they should.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Cash, also have a bill of sale, 2 copies you both sign then each gets one and the title. Buyer may want to meet at bank if they are paying/carrying cash.

And even taking cash, I would meet them at their bank and let them withdraw it and give it to you. I know of folks having fake bills passed off during a cash sale.

I just sold one and met them at the bank and verified funds on a check. A lot of people don’t want to carry a large ammount of cash on them and if you limit your self to cash only you will quite possibly miss a sell.

I've taken cash, cashier's checks and personal check if I know them . If they are financing , meet up at the buyer's bank.

I’ve gone to Walmart and picked up one of those markers that identifies counterfeit bills, when doing big cash transactions.

I take cashiers checks all the time. Tell them to bring a direct number to the bank that cut the check, not a 1 800 number. Call and verify, then get a copy of their drivers license and a picture of the vehicle they drove.

Cash and get a counterfeit pen. Put it in a money bag in the safe...

That would scare me more than a few fake bills. I'd check and double check a certified check from someone I didn't know if it wasn't from a local bank. Someone from Scottsboro, a few years ago, sold a race car to someone up North , got a bad certified check. No way to recover , lost a bunch of $.

If not at a bank video the entirety of transaction on your phone. Take video of persons face and their license and tag number of vehicle that they arrive in. I’ve been told by attorneys that this will hold up in court if criminal charges are later needed. I’ve had an issue in the past myself, so this is standard procedure for me. If someone is not comfortable with it they are likely trying to pull something shady.

Meet them at their bank.

1. Get a cashier's check from the bank.
2. Have the bank notarize a copy of the bill of sale, and ask them to copy one (he/she gets the original (for registration and tax purposes), you get the copy).
3. Remove tag
4. Sign title

That's the best/safest way to transfer ownership.

Wire transfers. You can meet them at their bank or yours. Have the buyer do a wire transfer into your account. Takes about 30 seconds to verify. Then you can sign over the title and go home.
