As of now there are three part time and three full time officers remaining.

If they are decent officers maybe they can be absorbed by the SO since they will now be covering the city which adds to the workload. Besides the routine LE criminal stuff, SOs are also tasked with a lot of other details such as serving Civil papers, transporting prisoners to and from other jurisdiction and to Doctor and dentist visits. You might not think a small town like this would add much to the load but you'd be surprised at all it can add.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

How does it work for the city ordinances? Will the SO enforce those, pick and choose which ones they enforce or drop them all?

this is for Shelby Co but id imagine the same would go for Hanceville if the police department is abolished

The Sheriff of Shelby County and his or her deputies may enforce municipal ordinances of the Town of Wilsonville
(“Town”) provided the contract between the Town and Sheriff provides for such enforcement. AGO 2016-005.

also if the police department does not fold ::
A county is not
responsible for police protection within municipalities, located within the county, that have established their own police
force. Further, the sheriff does not have a duty to enforce municipal ordinances. AGO 1998-188.

here is a link to some good info from the Alabama League of Municipalities

You have to believe that the mayor and city council have been contacted long before all this happened by residents and others that have been wronged . And they most likely just covered it up or ignored the facts . So if that is true they should be charged along with the others in my opinion . I have no tolerance for police or elected officials who do wrong .

Nope. That was Blount County. I live a rocks throw from Hanceville. Their P.D. has always been a little different is the way I would put it. My son in law has a close relative that is an officer there, at least for now. He sad the ABI came in to investigate the death of the dispatcher back in Aug. and they got suspicious of some things and started digging deeper and that's what led to these arrest. Cullman County D.A. Champ Crocker said Hanceville would be safer without a P.D. and I do believe he is correct.

Didn’t one or two of these ones fired come from Blountsville? I believe fired there

I suspect he was hoping it would all be swept under the rug.

Wife and I were just talking today about all going on in Hanceville. She used to work for Cullman county mental health. She was an adult case manager. She said one time she took a client to court there. Well they locked her up. My wife had to bring her sleep medicine to the police dept. She said the client swore they never gave it to her. And what ever it was not a controlled substance or a narcotic. This was like 6 years ago
