Most of my work is in the field. Going into the office is never not a time sink with very little accomplished.
My job was one day per month in the office before the scamdemic. They're requiring a return to that. The purpose was stated as wanting us to engage in water cooler chat. In other words, waste time where they can see us rather than get work done that day. The which is exactly why remote working is the better choice most of the time.
People who don't actually do the work view everything from the perspective of their desk. If they can't see you from the desk they don't think you're working. Also people get into management because they're mentally and emotionally defective. This is different from people who have to lead to meet their goals.
So …. People go into supervision roles due to being mentally defective? And a whole one day per month in the office is too much to bear? Goodness. I never knew!

I work the panama schedule. i work 630pm-630am monday/tuesday off wednesday and thursday then work friday-sunday. the next week im off monday/tuesady work wednesday and thursday then off friday-sunday. been doing this since 2004 .
i works out to being off 7 out of 14 days and im automatically guaranteed 8 hrs of overtime per pay period a time and 1/2
if you schedule off time or vacation time correctly you only burn 24 hrs and get 7 days off
holidays are double time so that is nice.
pay is $33 and some change per hr.

So …. People go into supervision roles due to being mentally defective? And a whole one day per month in the office is too much to bear? Goodness. I never knew! I cannot say if that's WHY they go into those roles. But I can definitively say that a very large percentage of those who are in management are mentally defective. When I was doing IT work it was a fricken prerequisite to being a manager. I worked for some of the dumbest people on the planet. None lasted long either. They'd replace them after a few months. The middle managers that hired the lower managers were even dumber. I never understood it. But that is the truth.
Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.

When I was still in Purchasing, we were 5 days a week in the office, then the Rona hit. They sent us home for over 2 years, to work remote. I was able to get significantly more done, and I only was involved in "work" duties about 8-9 hours each day.
When we went back to the office, it was 2-3 days each week, and we could choose the days. Then, the days became assigned days, Mon, Tue, Thu. It really sucked, because those days went back to 12+ hours of commute, lunch, work, and other crap.
I was likely twice as efficient when working from home.

I work 3 6:30am-7pm shifts then off for weekend then work 3 more 6:30am-7pm shifts all in office. then off for for the next 6 straight days. About 12 days a month
With PTO and holidays I end up working about 110-115 days a year.
I could probably make a good bit more money, but I came to realize years ago that time is precious.
I’m able to be there for everything for my family and parents and still able to make an honest living and enjoy life.
I Well, the way I see it is there's just too many assholes On a good day there's a bunch of assholes in here. On a bad day there's too many assholes in here.

I've worked in the corporate world for 32 years. WFH since 2009 with the ability to go into an office if I wanted to, which I rarely did. One thing I learned from the covid years is not everyone needs to be in an office to perform. You don't saddle a mustang. The company I worked for had some dumbasses in upper leadership, but a few of the smart ones figured out they didn't need all of the huge offices they were paying rent on. So, they allowed probably half the employees to work from home, reduced the size of the leased office space, or closed them outright, and only required the new employees to come into the office, which made perfect sense if you think about training, mentoring, etc.

This. Companies that have halfway competent HR folks and leadership will start to realize that the above statement is what the vast majority of the younger white collar workforce will gravitate to. You don’t have to pay as much if you are flexible and prioritize your employee’s time. I’ll give 110% while I’m at work (and I’ll work till the job is done no matter what) but I work to make a living, I don’t live to work. And good employees will find companies that believe the employee should have a life outside of work.
