An old hand co-worker, that put in 38 years at work passed away yesterday. I had the pleasure of working with him for 18 years before he was forced to retire due to a stroke, about a year and a half ago. He had multiple strokes, after retirement, for the next year and a half, and just couldn’t recover from it. His body finally gave up the fight yesterday and he went home to be with the Lord. He used to talk about looking forward to retirement a lot and didn’t get to go when he was ready, or on his terms. Damn shame. The man put in 38 years and didn’t get to enjoy one single day of retirement. This isn’t one of those “sorry for your loss” posts, just a reminder to us all to live life to the fullest fellows. As the late Jerry Reed sang, “be shackled only by freedom”.

If he went home to His house, his retirement there is something a worldly retirement could never give. I’m stingy though and hope I get to enjoy both. Prayers for his family.

Good reminder that 80% of strokes are preventable by seeing your doctor for regular exams and staying on top of taking your prescribed medicines.

Prayers for all.

Your friend didn’t get the earned enjoyment that he wanted but he’s no longer trapped in a disfunctional body. May he rest in peace. The thought of having a stroke will cause me to be very anxious if I don’t get it out of my mind. I don’t want to be a burden on my son and granddaughters.

I had an uncle with a similar story. He loved Coon hunting and hearing the dogs run more than about anything. When he finally retired from the state rd dept., he was already being struck down with some very debilitating arthritis. Spent most of the rest of his time here in a wheelchair.

Better live life to the fullest while we can.

Sorry for your loss. Also sorry to hear that he didn’t get to enjoy the retirement that he earned.
